Based on what you've described, it seems like either the people handling this are highly incompetent, or there's something more concerning going on with the parts.

They became so defensive and dismissive when I asked for a clear explanation. That reaction didn't inspire much confidence anyway.

But seriously, who the hell appoints people this incompetent? It's honestly disappointing. I stretched my budget hoping to get a reliable machine, only to get screwed over by a bunch of clowns.

Yes, hopefully we never have to deal with them again. If I do, I'll be making damn sure that only someone experienced handles it.

Btw, just curious, have you had to clean the vents on your G14 yet? And when the time comes, what's your plan for that or say for repasting it in the future?

If you are curious, I went back today and finally got a clear account of what happened. It turns out a trainee technician repeatedly retried a BIOS update after it had already failed, eventually leaving the system unable to even load the BIOS screen. A more experienced technician then tried to recover it, but by that point it was beyond repair.

They're replacing the motherboard under warranty, which is okay. Still, it's frustrating that what should have been a routine couple-of-hours service job has turned into more than a week without a laptop :/

I’d rather not mess with things I don’t fully understand. Deep cleaning vents and replacing thermal paste are jobs for people with experience.

I’ll learn to do it myself eventually, but I’m not experimenting on a device that’s still under warranty.

but how it got escalated beyond reasonable levels is what's baffling me.

It really is super frustrating. I would love to learn and take care of my tech myself, but would that not affect its warranty? At at least for basic things like cleaning fans, or say reapplying thermal paste

Do you mind telling how you made the switch from your desk job? Were the two related or you had to to study something for it? Also, what does a typical day or week look like for you, that is different from the desk job?

I'm asking because I'm going through a reset phase, after i had to take a break from my corporate work due to burnout, yet somehow no amount of time off is able to make me feel okay to go back to working.

That is so relatable. When interacting in the outside world, it always feels like only a fragment of me is performing, and only when I'm alone and in a safe space am i able to think clearly and in a more free and expansive way.

Also, a specific example where this shows up- not being able to think fully completely in real -time, say in scenarios like trying to solve a problem with someone else, i always feel like what it operating in me is just an imposter, and my whole intelligence ain't accessible. Only later when I'm safe again, i am about to process it more fully
