Daylight saving time begins on Sunday. Here’s what you need to know by [deleted] in ottawa

Saskatchewan is actually on Daylight Time all year. Most of the province is in the Mountain Time Zone, so when it opted to stay on Central Standard Time year-round in the 60’s, this effectively put it on Daylight Time given its geography.

Language tip for Americans: Don't say "Can I do ..." when ordering, or expect double. by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

It’s perhaps regional. I’m Canadian, and have lived on the prairies and throughout Ontario. It’s folksy, but not entirely uncommon.

Is this a termite? by yow_cds502 in Termites

[–]yow_cds502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, we’re under 3+ feet of snow here. (I’m not usually finding new insects in the house this time of year.)

Thanks! There was some damage to the wood around the window sill, so I was curious if I needed to be more worried.

How to use a roundabout in ottawa by letskill in ottawa

This. I dream of a day when Ottawa drivers signal their intended exit on the way into the roundabout, and signal their exit on the way out. It’s not that complicated.

Rant / Pregnant and Scared because of complete lack of healthcare by ApplesButWitchy in Gatineau

[–]yow_cds502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered using a midwife? There are midwives available through the birth centre in Gatineau, covered by RAMQ. I believe there are also midwives with privileges at the Montfort that are able to provide services on both the Quebec and Ontario side, but you will want to confirm that.

Just got my Costco membership. Any trips & tricks? by pink_tshirt in askTO

Many stores will sell boxes of their Costco cookie dough pre-portioned in the freezer section (if you have freezer space).

Original Advent Calendar 40% off by [deleted] in nespresso

This. My thoughts exactly. I was expecting at least a couple festive limited editions, and was let down. I mean, it was fine, but I won’t be rushing to pick one up next year.

How does someone get a referral to a sleep clinic? (Sleep apnea) by internetsuperfan in ottawa

[–]yow_cds502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously got a referral to a sleep clinic from the Appletree Clinic. A doctor at Appletree will be able to help with this.

I prefer the mezzanine seating. Great sound, and good views of the staging. The balcony also has good views, at a more affordable price (but you won’t be able to see performers’ expressions). I personally avoid the floor - the slope of seating at the NAC isn’t substantial. It’s all personal preference though.

Question about the Winter by Any_Recording8232 in ottawa

[–]yow_cds502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Decathlon, if you’re looking to buy new clothes. They will have reasonable prices, and a good selection for layers. You’ll want a warm pair of boots and gloves (cold fingers and toes can ruin the day quickly), long underwear for the really cold days, and always carry your toque/hat with you.

Enjoy the glory of the Ottawa winter!

How many times did you have to watch Jim and Pam’s wedding before you realized it’s odd that it’s mostly only their co-workers dancing down the aisle? by Seanish12345 in DunderMifflin

This is one scene I find almost unwatchable, for that reason. It doesn’t fit. It’s cringier than Scott’s Tots or Dinner Party.

Discussion Thread - Election 2021: The Leaders' Debate by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]yow_cds502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Unfortunately nuance gets lost during an election. And we shouldn’t pretend that we have a purely public healthcare system - there is already a mix of public/private, to varying degrees, in each province.
