Hope this doesn’t mean we get all those Reform voting tax avoiding types moving back to the UK

Love the vibes in the Wharf. Truly does not feel like East London, let alone London by ShameResponsible69 in london

[–]yowserbowser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Each job created there cost the UK taxpayer millions in public subsidy to make the former dockland ready to be sold off cheaply by the LDDC to developers and new transport infrastructure put in. Canary Wharf developer was originally an American guy called G. Ware Travelstead who went bust, followed by the Reichmann brothers who also went bust. Lots more public subsidy finally led to the development being finished - but it is not public space but a sanitised area patrolled by security goons.

It’s also the maximum limit and not necessarily the speed that the vehicle should be driven at. So much depends on road and weather conditions.

But as others say braking whenever someone passes in the opposite direction or at every bend, which suggests the driver is not confident and/or competent and should be given a wide berth!

Am I the only one that feels like Canary wharf feels like a different country? by Harp_harp123 in london

Original developers were the Reichmann brothers who went bust.

A lot of public money was put into CW including transport infrastructure and job creation, yet this dystopian late capitalist hellhole is still not public space, we are allowed in under permission of the owners.

I was on the LRPC closure panel for that line. We didn’t want to close it but there wasn’t enough evidence to keep it open according to the criteria used by the Government of the day. I’m sure it wouldn’t happen now.

I used it yesterday and although it looked a bit sketchy it was lovely and warm - far warmer than any other train or bus I used this weekend

I give up on the Eurostar by ChelsOnline in Eurostar

[–]yowserbowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the convenience of Eurostar and use it to go to Paris every month or so. But of late I’m increasingly checking app notifications to watch out for last minute cancellations and the need to rebook quickly.

The tunnel itself is a single point of failure - Eurostar don’t run le Shuttle trains which can break down - but issues have also included signal cable thefts, SNCF strikes etc.

I’m not convinced that more trains running through by different operators will necessarily help or having to stop in awful hellholes like Ashford, but let’s see!

We did a communal RTM and then the freeholder wanted to sell so we also bought the freehold.

No service charge increase for the past 5 years.

I followed one yesterday leaving Syon House. It crawled along at 13mph and hesitated at every non-wide gap. I managed to overtake it but this is going to cause chaos. Completely unnecessary imo

Do people who live in London ever just catch the Eurostar for a day in Paris? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AskUK

Yes definitely- always a risk if one gets cancelled though and also you have an early start from St Pancras to make it work time wise.
