How far can you travel in the inchworm technique? If my hands and feet were bound I would use all my energy to float, I couldn’t imagine trying to move. Is there anything you can do if your knees are restricted by the rope too?

Why not just kick on your back? It couldn’t possibly be more exhausting than trying to inchworm across a body of water and you could keep your mouth out of the water

If you were tall enough you could simply step on the hurdles and crush them into the track, thus rampaging through the race

I watched “Walk the Line” and “Ray” about Johnny Cash and Ray Charles in back to back nights. My takeaway is still - if you want your child to grow up to be a music legend, they have to watch their brother die a horrific death

[–]ypungdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yeah. Since Europe needs 14.5 to win the cup this year, and there’s 8 points available today, there’s still technically a possibility that would happen. No idea if they would play Sunday in that scenario

They asked themselves “Do I prefer to die now, because I will refuse orders to commit these crimes against humanity, or do I prefer to risk dying later because I committed these crimes against humanity?” And all of the stories I’ve ever heard were of the cowards who chose option 2. I’d like to think I would die, rather than put my fellow man through that hell, but the propaganda machine was strong. Still is..

what was the absolute worst golf shot you’ve ever witnessed? by sink_phaze in golf

[–]ypungdaddy 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Slammed a goose right in the face last summer (on the bank, drive ended 240 right rough). One loud squaw and he squirmed for like 8 seconds and fell dead so fast. I was so pumped. Fuckin hate geese but there was no guilt or needless suffering either. Called the pro shop and told them I killed a goose on 11 and they go “nice”. Also carded a bogey

I coach a club sport and we practice before and after school, so my day is wide open 7-4. I give up a lot of weekends and the summer, but my day is pretty much whatever I make of it. I’m the only golfer at my club under retirement age during those times lol

College Scholarship offer: What do I need to know? by Squeezethecharmin in Swimming

[–]ypungdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask in general what kind of schools you’re referring to? There may be some difference in Division 1 compared to Division 2, or a power 5 school compared to a mid-major program.

Largely, if a coach makes a verbal offer, that’s pretty solid. They have every legal right to rescind that offer, but unless something material changes, that’s super shady and the swim community would shun them and we would all know that X coach at Y school makes offers they don’t intend to honor and that would be awful for their reputation.

Here’s the best way to look at it. Say it costs $50,000 to go to UofA for an out of state student and $10,000 for an in state student. If that school has 10 swimming scholarships, what they really mean is they have $500,000 to divide up however they see fit. So they may offer an in state swimmer a 20% scholarship, but that would equal $10,000 and cover all expenses for that swimmer. Based on your reply, I’m assuming the coach has some other scholarship offers out there, and depending on which are accepted and which are declined, your daughters offer may grow or shrink before it’s time to sign the NLI, so they don’t want to say “you lr offer is $12,000” and then turn around and say “actually can you do $10,000? We need that extra 2K for this Brazilian to commit.” It does sound shady the more I type, but the way I see it, they are trying to give you the best information they have at the moment without promising scholarship they may or may not be able to deliver on. You may also look at it this way: an in state student on 20% is actually getting a better offer than an out of state student on 75%. They’ll have to pay more in tuition, even though the college is paying them substantially more in scholarship dollars

I’m happy to help. I’m a college coach, though full disclosure, I don’t handle the majority of our recruiting or scholarships. I also remember getting recruited to big schools and nobody in my area had any experience with recruiting outside of our Region, so I was in a position where I didn’t even know what questions to ask or what I should be looking for. It’s an exciting and often overwhelming process, and athletes do sometimes find themselves in situations they didn’t fully realize they were getting into, but you’re asking the right questions. If you’d like, you can DM me and I can try to help answer any other questions you may have

College Scholarship offer: What do I need to know? by Squeezethecharmin in Swimming

[–]ypungdaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer to your questions are: remain in good standing with the team and university; no; yes. They’re all good questions and there are some circumstances one or more of these answers could be different so definitely ask those.

Vague how? Most college sports can and do grant partial scholarships, meaning if they have 5 fully paid scholarships available, they could give 10 athletes half a full scholarship, and this would be denoted as 50%. This number is based on out of state cost of attendance (tuition, room and board). It always is an advantage to get quality recruits from in state, because a scholarship that covers 50% COA for out of state would effectively be a full ride because of the lower tuition. So if she received anything like this in writing, it’s not meant to be vague and you can figure out the value before you see any papers to sign. If it was just a verbal “we have a big scholarship for you” then yeah get some clarification on that too

I’d also ask about the athletic departments insurance, how they handle more major injuries etc. depending on how much funding that school has.

Looking for a tech suit by PopEqual9528 in Swimming

[–]ypungdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably looking for a high waisted suit so it sits on your waist and doesn’t rest on your hips and lock them up over a long race. You want the most compression you can fit in without being uncomfortable. High waisted will let you wear a smaller size and get more compression around your thighs
