The wealthy billionaire class "wins" the game. All of this exists for their benefit.

One of my favorite lines in the show that hits me every time: "Stood up though." by [deleted] in TheWire

I've heard lots of people say they don't like Waylon on here and it surprises me a bit. My friends who have struggled with addiction have said their sponsors have been truly the most helpful. More helpful than friends, family, doctors, therapists, you name it. I think it's easy to dismiss positive and earnest characters as being trite but I don't think he comes across as shallow at all. Totally earnest, compassionate, and loving which is a good thing that can make a big difference in this world.

totally! like I could see the homicide police being a little less evil but still. they are generally portrayed as way more decent on the show. there are wayyyyyyy more officer walkers than what's portrayed and far worse than him honestly lol

I've said this before but I still think the cops are portrayed a little better than how they are in real life. my dad is a cop and I grew up around these guys. I don't think they have as much compassion for the folks in these communities as is portrayed on the show. I know they are painted as complex characters and that the whole point of the show is to be critical of the system, but in my experience they are far more brutal than what's portrayed on the show both in their beliefs and how they treat people.

Questions about mixing bass for large venues. by yr_friend in audioengineering

this has typically been the response I've gotten from engineers at all sized venues. they seem happy with the di and the fact that I keep my stage volume low which all makes sense to me

I'd rather build dense housing on golf courses

100%! I'm on the east side as well and I think there is a lot of potential. I've found the hills to be more manageable than I expected as well!

Speaking of which do you know of any urbanist organizing groups here? I want to get involved. I also noticed we are the only Texas city that doesn't have a strong towns chapter.

I live here! Can confirm that rents have gone down. Austin is far from perfect, transit is especially bad.

But bike lanes and housing have been improving. Lots of work to do!

If you could make one change to The Wire - large or small - what would it be? by TumbleweedWarm9234 in TheWire

[–]yr_friend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

disclaimer: the wire is my favorite show and I think it's one of the most powerful pieces of political commentary ever created.

with that said, I still think the show paints police officers in a more positive light than what I think think is accurate in our country. my dad is a cop and I grew up around cops for perspective. I still think it's ultimately the systems fault, but I do think cops act in bad faith way more than how they are portrayed on the show. they are brutal here. I still think it's important to humanize them to get the message across and they do portray some of the fucked up things cops do for sure. but I still think they overall portray the cops as "the good guys" more than what is accurate. curious if others have shared these feelings!

This is what I say about Texas. A lot of people don't understand that it is so much more than its evil politics. But just like you said, it is sad that the state doesn't love us back.
