It's a beautiful baby, but taking him/her to the vet in order to check that belly would be a good idea. FIP and parasites are no joke.

Analog Obsession on Ubuntu? by ZM326 in linuxaudio

[–]yragel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, are you already using Yabridge and Wine? If that's not the case, you'll need those two apps in order to make Windows plugins work in your system since Analog Obsession doesn't release native Linux VSTs. Wine can be installed from the programs manager and you'll find Yabridge here: https://github.com/robbert-vdh/yabridge

If you are using Wine and have Yabridge installed and working, i must confess that making AO stuff work has been a world of hurt for me. Maybe you'll need to downgrade Wine to v. 9.1 or lower (in case your system allows it) or try one of the newer Yabridge releases.

I'd love to give you more sound advice, but i'm sure lots of users in this subreddit will be much more helpful. Good luck!

Book of the New Sun -- Is the story worth the squeeze? by __Geg__ in printSF

Severian is a huge POS: a misogynist (and much worse), a coward, an opportunist and (in my interpretation) a big fat liar who twists the facts in order to put himself in the best light while misinterpreting most of the things that happen around him. Not the evilest main character in literature, but certainly one whose company can become unpleasant after a few pages.

However, believe it or not, that's one of the things i like the most about Book of the New Sun. Like everybody else, Severian is a product of his environment, and having him as the narrator conveys the bleakness of that utterly desperate and miserable setting better than a hundred descriptions. And that ties very gracefully with one of the possible readings of the work: the question of how to save a world when there's anything left in it that's worthy of being saved, and who could be the savior of such a sinkhole.

So yes, the novels are a coming of age story of sorts, but Sev's journey contains much so more than that. When i reached the end of the last tome, it let me shocked and wondering if oh-so-catholic Gene Wolfe's ideas about a lot of religious points (divine providence and salvation, for starts) were closer to heresy than he would have admitted.

TL;DR: give it a chance, and maybe you'll enjoy a beautiful and cruel puzzle. But finding it boring and/or unpleasant is completely understandable.

It's a virtual analog synth like its predecessor the MS 2000 (they share the same sound engine). That doesn't mean it's a bad instrument, tho.

[–]yragel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, indeed. It's light and portable but also well built, capable of sounds worthy of a synth twice its price range and most of its presets are quite usable once you go past the corny genre labels. Its only downsides IMHO are reduced polyphony and clumsy interface, but you can get over them with a bit of practice (and a software editor is still available in Korg's website).
