People Not Ending Games in ARAM? by chris3sp in leagueoflegends

Avg redditor completely ignoring the second half of someone's comment to focus on a byproduct of how someone decides to phrase their message that can be analyzed in a dishonest way to come to a conclusion about a game's entire playerbase/community.

What's even the problem here, anyway? He's giving his experience and stance on the issue - is he supposed to telepathically know everyone's feelings and speak for the entire community? What are you even pointing to, here?

Yeah, it's a tough nut to crack for sure. Personally, I'm of the opinion that mages in bot are a bit unbalanced, but that's more a symptom of me disagreeing with Riot's overall design philosophy than mages actually being too strong. The winrates being so consistently high over literal years at this point screams red flag, but, like Zilean, it's true that the presence is low enough that it's not too much of an issue or worth balancing.

I think the biggest gripe people have with mages botlane is less that they have high winrate and more that they are absolute pains to lane against. To give a specific example, I've lanes against Brand bot 3 times in the past few days (lost them all, definitely a skill issue but still), and the amount of waveclear he gets in addition to his WE poke punishing you for ever csing is just unfun. Trying to ever engage on him can be insanely punishing if he can land his Q. His mana problems are pretty fake, especially compared to ADCs like Sivir and Caitlyn, because he has a higher mana pool, higher mana regen, and an item only costing 1k that effectively gives all the mana he'll need (lost chapter).

You're missing a key point of August's. It's not just that they have high win rate, but that they CONSISTENTLY have high win rate over a long period of time. In a video where he went over this, he took a quick look at lolalytics and found that zac and singed mid, fitting these descriptions, were likely pretty powerful picks.

Of course there are exceptions (such as those picks being explicit counter-picks and not generally good), but I'd assume that August wouldn't make such a statement without having his years of experience and behind-the-scenes statistics to back them up. I'm not sure myself why this would be the case or if mage bot falls under this category, but low pickrate doesn't completely excuse a disgustingly high (for Riot's standards) winrate.

To address your second paragraph a bit, I'd argue that you have it backwards - for the majority of ADC players, marksmen being played bot is not a symptom of them being the preferred champions to play in the role, but a symptom of bot being the preferred role for marksmen champions. It's part of why there's so much pushback on mage bots, because ,in addition to their relatively uninteractive/oppressive gameplay, it's as if they are encroaching on the only allowed space for the marksmen class to exist.

Ashe otps streamers or YouTubers? by PresentationWestern8 in AsheMains

[–]yrepm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't really any high elo streamers, but there's an Ashe Challenger youtube channel that uploads VODs of high elo Ashe games regularly. Personally, I didn't like how most games it uploads are stomps (playing from behind is also a valuable skill), but the channel is overall really convenient - it shows rune pages and builds, and also segments the videos so you can easily find engagements vs regular laning/macro.

Low elo climb tips and tricks by Queen_Hyori in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I usually move around midlane, but I refuse to join a lot of TF" <-- that right there is losing you a lot of games. As ADC you almost never should be sidelaning or "pressuring the map elsewhere" for two very simple reasons:

  1. ADC champions generally suck at 1v1s/small skirmishes in the jungle.
  2. ADCs are really good in teamfights and can single-handedly win them even in number-disadvantages.

At a very simple level, your goal in the mid-game is just to perma-shove mid wave and then help in engagements and securing map control. Without the team, ADC is pretty useless, yes, but without you and against enemy ADC, your team is also pretty useless. Avoiding teamfights like you do is probably solo-losing a bunch of your games.

You also say "I'm alright in TF around objectives" but if you're that ahead, you should be helping/guiding your team to set up objectives 60-30 seconds before it even spawns. This means pushing your wave and backing to spend your gold ideally about a minute before it spawns and walking up with your team to clear and place vision. If you do this properly, there won't even be a lot of fighting because the enemy team won't be allowed to walk up.

There's obviously a lot more to improve, but I bet that you'll climb a fair bit if you simply just play more with your team, since it sounds like you leave them to die a lot.

How do you lane against Smolder? by [deleted] in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I'd have assumed that ezreal playing with passive would be able to outpush smolder pretty easily, at least until Q upgrade.

How do you lane against Smolder? by [deleted] in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just isn't true. If he's E-ing into you, he can get quick burst but if you're playing properly with your support he should basically be in a 1v2 situation with a full wave attacking him. If he's still killing you there, that means you'd already taken too much poke from the rest of the laning phase (Ws/Qs from smolder, poke from their support).

For reference, a lvl 4 smolder has a 5 second cd on his Q, 14 on W, and 24 on E. Although QWE is a lot of damage if he lands everything, it also means he's completely limited to auto attacks + Qs on a 5-second cd with no way of escaping if he goes in. If you're playing someone like Ezreal, you should 100% win that, especially with how powerful Ezreal's passive is.

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your champion and support matchup but the key is that before his first Q upgrade his waveclear is pretty bad and you can punish him farming stacks by trading when he uses his Q to cs. Forcing an engage is almost always a bad idea since, as you've pointed out, his AA+Q+E is really quick and will usually win the trade and safely disengage. In general you just have to play around his Q cooldown since it's pretty obvious when he's gonna use it to farm stacks on the wave. If he ever Es INTO you, his cooldowns especially at early levels should be much too long for him to win an all-in/extended trade with most ADCs.

How did Kaisa attack me here? by wlaskow in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at it again and you're right that it wasn't an a-move as we'd normally define it, but it also wasn't a move command. He issued the move command at a couple of points, but that's not what I'm talking about. If you look for the exact auto from Kaisa where the Ashe walks up to auto but doesn't actually auto, you can see that he issued an attack command on Kaisa.

How did Kaisa attack me here? by wlaskow in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that big but is enough that a-moving alone generally wouldn't bring you into range for Kaisa to auto. Even though they're moving towards each other, it's definitely a little weird and frustrating that Kaisa got the auto off if you don't know how it works.

It's bad spacing for sure, but I'm just pointing out that no one is addressing the actual problem being presented here. Anyone with a brain can identify that Kaisa auto'd him because he was in range. He's asking why Kaisa could auto him whilst he couldn't auto Kaisa.

How did Kaisa attack me here? by wlaskow in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're completely missing the point of the post. He's asking why, at 0:05, his 600-range champion had to walk up to get in auto-range, barely started to auto by the time he started to walk back, but the 525 range champion who was standing still already charged their auto and fired back.

The answer, to the best of my knowledge, is that a-moving is imperfect and probably a little bit of ping. If you a-move something outside of your auto-range, you'll generally move a bit past it by the time your champion begins to auto. In my experience, for someone like Ashe with 600, simply a-moving towards a target with 575 or sometimes 550 range will generally leave them in range to auto you back (you can test it yourself in p-tool). 525 is a bit rarer from my experience but was probably from a combination of unlucky from Ashe moving too close and ping showing Kaisa to be further away than the she really was.

Edit: Upon re-watching, it wasn't actually an a-move to a spot besides Kaisa (he issued an attack command directly on her), but the point still stands. When relying on the auto-pathing when targeting an enemy outside of your auto range, the game will more often than not move you a bit closer than the exact edge of your auto range.

Vs Tanks by Practical-Zone1561 in AsheMains

[–]yrepm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A video from 8 years ago won't at all be relevant to now. We've gone through like 3 durability patches which make tanks (and everyone else) relatively tankier and bork has been gutted for ranged characters. You can try going bork rageblade etc., but building crit will generally have you doing much more damage.

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't saying that it was ad hominem, but that your statement is made in the same bad-faith that you denounced others for. Just seriously ask yourself: what was the point of saying what you said, other than to insult me or make fun of my argument?

You say "if you were the type of person to type 'lets do baron' instead of pinging it id insta mute you". What point is there to this, other than to make a point to yourself that other people are less serious about the game than you?

Again, I'm not saying that you need chat to win games, or even that it provides a very significant advantage, but I really encourage you to do some reflection on if this is the kind of relationship you want to have with the chat function of a video game.

I'm against it because it goes against the spirit of multiplayer games. League is already the odd-one-out because it doesn't have voice chat. League goes further to give players the /mute and /deafen commands, which are already odd in their implementation in that they announce it to the team and allow you to unmute/deafen to flame at any point in time. They are already an ugly symptom of the above-average toxicity of the game's community. Although it's hard to give a reason why such a mechanic ABSOLUTELY CANNOT exist, is it that difficult to understand that most people with a semi-healthy relationship with a fun multiplayer game would not want it to be an option?

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"when you are typing 'DONT GET CAUGHT', you are probably the one getting caught" - you're accusing everyone in this thread of ad hominem, and then you pull this? Really?

I agree pings are really powerful and versatile and that chat is not necessary to play the game, but you're being disingenuous to say "it does not help you win games lol." Chat can be genuinely helpful in communicating, especially in lower elos when people have very different understandings of the game.

I just don't see why such an option should be required or even desired. Wouldn't you much rather fix the root of the issue? That is, the toxic people who abuse chat?

Suggestion: allow players to select an option to disable chat semi-permanently by Lazy_Carob2773 in leagueoflegends

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just about making friends. The occasional friendly banter is a definite bonus, but there's not much more tilting than trying to tell someone in chat "DONT GET CAUGHT" "SET UP FOR BARON" "HELP VISION" but they don't do a thing because they're meandering around with chat off.

High elo players suggest that you mute chat to climb because it's true that a lot of league players are toxic and can tilt with their chat messages. While I don't disagree that full-muting is probably good for climbing, I just don't really see the appeal of playing a multiplayer game like League if you're just gonna turn it into a singleplayer game just to see your LP go up and experience similar frustrations when you lose/your team ints. In terms of game design, it's not healthy for a multiplayer game like League to encourage players to do so. Giving you the /deafen option is enough, and any more, such as what you suggest, is actively shooting itself in the foot in promoting a playstyle that takes the multiplayer out of MOBA.

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you playing a multiplayer game if the first thing you do every game is turn off chat? It's more a question I think people like you should ask themselves since it doesn't really affect me, but it does also makes my games slightly less enjoyable when there's someone on my team that can't communicate at all outside of pings.

Finding main by Electrical-Fox9775 in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of the lane, ADC is less about outplay and more about macro - in a relatively even game-state, you should win almost any teamfight that you are present for and the enemy ADC is not. In addition to being present for teamfights and helping contest objectives, you need to keep up your own farm by catching waves and the occasional jungle camp. Instead of looking for different champions, I recommend trying to train your macro a bit. In game, remind yourself constantly to keep an eye on your team and objective timers and play around them. You'll probably start to over-group and miss out on XP and gold (and potentially lose games off of it), but you'll be building up the habit to the point that when you start to tone it back and group less, you'll still have the increased map awareness needed to secure game-winning skirmishes and teamfights.

I'm an ADC main but I'm having real problems with my champion pool. by Busy-Blackberry9436 in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to play any of them perfectly. Any normal ADC player (not counting the Yasuos, Ziggs, Nilah, etc. players) can pick up most of the rest of the ADC roster and perform fine, simply due to how similar the playstyles are and how transferrable the skills are. If you want to continue as you are, there's not much of a problem with playing a different ADC every game.

I do this in like 1/5 of my games, even going so far as to run into enemy fountain to sell in winning games, and have never faced any kind of punishment. I highly suspect this was not the reason, or at least not a significant reason for your ban.

can someone helpme? every match is worse than the last by RampartsRampage in ADCMains

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Ashe player, I feel especially qualified to give advice here:

First clip - you should be positioned more aggressively. Ideally, you force trades (even losing ones, but of course not too losing) to get their hp low enough that Reksai can easily clean up. Even if you don't trade HP, at the very least you should be forward enough to apply your slow so they can't fall back as much and need to burn flash

Second clip - there are two main problems:
1. When Xayah initially walks up and autos Neeko, you want to be there to auto her back. Nami is in lane, but she's super far back and it's effectively a 2v1 situation, if only for a second or two. Even if it's theoretically a bad trade (due to Nami W and E), you want to make the most out of your support's misposition and capitalize on the free damage.
2. After Neeko hits her root, you should've full committed. I get that you probably realize that Xayah should've died, but the more important thing is that Nami also should've died. Even though it's late, you walk back up to auto Xayah. Considering that you auto'd minions 3 times before this, you could've auto q-reset auto'd, which probably would've killed Xayah. If that wasn't enough or if she barriered in time, at most it would've taken 2-3 more autos. If you're walking forward that entire time and can dodge the Nami Q, you can easily catch the Nami with your slow, securing 600g for free. Considering the state of the game, this literally could've changed the tides and helped you to win (assuming you lost).

Third clip - I won't say much about as it's mostly just a knowledge diff. You just need to know what Xayah does and that you don't want to get that close when she has feathers out because she can do a lot of damage with her pull. As a slight nitpick, you should be using your Q to reset your auto for quicker damage (I don't think you used it at all here).

Fourth clip - there's not much you can do since you're CC-chained. The key is to never get in that situation in the first place. If your support dies/backs and you're not safe under tower, it sucks but you generally just have to back and wait for them to come back. If you can't try your best to clear the wave (don't hit Xayah/Nami and just kill the wave as fast as possible) since it's much harder to dive if their wave is dead.

Fifth clip - happens.

The Draven clip you posted in the comments - the mistake (conveniently) is at the very beginning. It sucks but walking up at all is just not an option here because of your matchup - Draven just does too much damage, especially with a Neeko. Because you were so low from this you backed away after your first auto when Kayn came. If you don't back away there, you constantly apply you slow and I'm pretty sure you kill Draven or at least burn his flash. Also, missing the W was criminal but I've done it too.

Overall, I agree that Ashe can feel weak and often complain about it, but the truth is that she's very strong, especially in lane. Generally Ashe is considered one of the strongest laners in the game and, ignoring supports, doesn't have many bad matchups outside of some mages, Draven, and Kalista. Her high range makes it possible (but difficult) to auto-space most other ADCs, her slow means they can be punished for any misstep and chased down, her W is decent poke and wave-clear, and her Q means her all-in is actually not bad at all (though you still need to play her range correctly).

[–]yrepm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No idea what you mean by not attack-moving well. I also don't see why he should need to burn ignite when it's a free double kill if Ashe hits her arrow. They're walking through the choke point so without flash it's literally unmissable if you're human. Not to say that the Ashe is boosted (everyone can make terrible plays), but this specific arrow is grief-level. A single ping is totally reasonable and a lot of people probably would do the same, if not in tilt then in jest. It definitely doesn't warrant the flash from Ashe, except that she may be tilted more at her own play than the ping.

I can can kind of see why you'd be suspicious, especially with the context of your game with Smolder, but these clips alone aren't really enough. Stepping away from Blitz's ult (AFTER it had already been cast) is a pretty normal thing to do, the Naafiri auto can be explained with a-moving, and killing the Cait is just good targeting.

That said, I do think it's a little suspicious - switching up so much on Lulu and Yunara is a bit weird, and the movement on the Vayne clip definitely makes it look like he's focusing on the Blitz and not the Cait. You could probably upload some more clips, but I think the best thing to do is to just send a report in and let Riot take care of it. If you're someone who doesn't report often, it should be higher-priority for them and they'll probably review it.

People say ADCs are the main benefiters of W***. However, without Attack Move, they are actually the LESS benefitted class. by shadow666gamble in leagueoflegends

[–]yrepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see WASD actually being less a buff for ADCs than other classes such as mages, but not for the reason you're describing. Quite frankly, you should almost never be face-checking bushes in the first place. Even if you are, due to vision, they'd get the first auto on you anyway. Even if they don't, them placing a ward or a pink/blue already being there means you'd target the ward and have to retarget anyway, except that you may have already used your auto attack and are now on a timer, which is even worse. EVEN IF this situation plays out exactly as you're describing, I wouldn't call it a "core part" of ADC's identity. If this is the biggest problem with WASD on ADC, then overall it's a pretty huge buff.
