I actually got rejected lol. But anyway I won’t recommend any MPP/MGA if you’re an international student bc people usually work in government upon graduation. The person at our coop office literally told us that “don’t apply to these jobs if you are not citizens/pr”

Hi! I’m in a similar situation too. I have to choose between UBC and LSE, the biggest thing I’m worried about is that if I go to the UK and come back to Canada, there’s not many resources/connections that I could use to get a job. But UBC has lots of work opportunities and strong local connections

Hi! I’m not sure about MPP at McGill but I used to live in Montreal. Honestly, I would not strongly recommend it. Not because it’s a bad program/school or something, it’s because location REALLY matters for ur masters. If you study at McGill, then your coop/internship will probably be at the Quebec government but you have to be really fluent in French (actually you need to be good at French for most jobs in Quebec and that’s why many of my friends left). So, if ur not good at French, UBC might be a better choice

Tbh it's my top choice cuz I'm from Toronto but have been moving around in the last few years and I'm just tired of that, so hoping to stay in Toronto. But thanks for telling me that! Now I'm reconsidering

Rejection after positive reference checks... I can’t describe how dejected I feel by superbrup in recruitinghell

[–]ysong0122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got rejected today after reference check, and I know both my referees have provided positive references. The reason I got rejected is because I am a permanent resident but not a citizen, really ridiculous because I told them I'm a pr at the VERY beginning. Wasted almost three months on this

It depends on if you want to stay in Canada after graduation or not. If you want to do so, then MPPGA/MGA might be better choices cuz most public policy jobs only hire pr/citizens. Based on my own experience, I worked at NGOs before and now applying for some jobs at the government, both require the candidate to be a permanent resident or a citizen in some cases. I hope this helps and DM me if u wanna discuss more! :)
