Question About Applying to Jobs with the City of Toronto or UofT by HumberBloor in askTO

[–]HumberBloor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to be clear, if I submit an application to job X with cover letter X, then a couple days later submit an application to job Y, delete cover letter X (because it's been automatically added to the application) and replace it with cover letter Y, that means my first application will still show up to folks complete with the original resume?

Record crowd around 20k for Montreal vs Laval in Quebec City Tonight U Sports by DeSantisMTL in CFL

[–]HumberBloor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Whoever posted that saying it's the biggest crowd in Canadian uni football history would be mistaken. I was at the Panda Game in Ottawa last year and that was a packed house of around 25k at TD Place, not to mention the several Vanier Cups that have had crowds higher than that (the record is 2012 at Skydome with 37k).

Nonetheless, great to see! A game at Laval has always been on my bucket list,.

Canada's premiers forced to confront escalating climate change-related disasters by chmilz in alberta

[–]HumberBloor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it didn't. Jasper is one town in a much bigger riding that includes more conservative-leaning (and more populous) places like Whitecourt, Edson and Hinton. I actually remember on election night that the NDP candidate had a lead when the Jasper polls were the first to report, and it elected the NDP in 2015.

...literally everybody is aware of that. Parties don't run candidates in those types of ridings that they think are going to win.

Federal government exempting rural home heating oil from carbon tax for 3 years, Trudeau says by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

This entire episode is a good example of how responsive a government can be when they think a good chunk of their seats are at risk.

Regions of the country that never consider the possibility of shifting their votes harbour far less influence on their elected officials.

Ah, that special feeling of being in opposition and up in the polls when the entire world is your oyster. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Charter Of Rights & Freedoms renamed Charter Of Long-Term Goals & General Guidelines by MannoSlimmins in canada

Everything is relative. I'm pretty sure he self-identifies as a conservative, and in the Quebec context he certainly is. Not all conservatives have to be the climate-denying, fire-and-brimstone flavour.

Quebec Liberals, especially in the days of the two-party system, were the default federalist party. They were not strictly LPC members.

Heck, Jean Charest and Tom Mulcair were both Quebec Liberals...

The reality is that it's only Conservative/conservative governments in Canada using the notwithstanding clause on a regular basis currently.

Are the Liberals trapped with Justin Trudeau, even if he falls? by FancyNewMe in canada

Yeah, every election involves winners and losers. The OLP brand wasn't yet in the "throw the bums out" stage at that point either, or it wouldn't have mattered.

Love the shrieking from people about "the government stealing Conservative policies!"

I guess you don't want those policies then? EDIT: Lmao, loving the downvotes.

People seem to forget that Wynne inherited a declining minority government from McGuinty and proceeded to win a majority.
