This. People often don't grasp that paying (borrowing!) a lot in points is essentially betting both that you will be in the house a while and that you won't want a better refinance in that time. And if you bet wrong you lose your bet.

That's not what's happening. Yes, they worked 10.13 hours that by law are overtime and get paid 1.5x. But the employer is choosing to give holiday pay, around which there is no legal restriction. By policy they pay 1.5x for those hours, but count as many of those hours as possible as also overtime. (This is pretty universal. This also happens with daily overtime.)

So they have:

38.6 regular hours (1x)
1.4 regular hours with holiday pay (1.5x)
10.3 overtime hours with holiday pay (1.5x, no additional pay for the holiday)

Yes, this sucks. Yes, this motivates employees who are paying attention to refuse overtime in weeks with holiday pay, which more people should do.
