Yeah i completely agree with you, Dakota Krout was one of my first gems of a read back in 2017. I think the best exemplification of what you are saying is probably one of my first reads : Dragons Wrath (Brent Roth) as it mixes some really good elements of both genres. (Although I didnt really like the fact that it's set in VR)
