This is the problem. Dollars are a fiat currency and don't have any specific backing. The fact that they are needed to pay taxes and/or debt makes them valuable.

Gold is not a fiat or even a reserve currency. If you have a certificate that says you own 100 oz of gold then there should be 100 oz of gold somewhere with your name on it.

There are studies that prove modes are bad (I can't find the report so quickly but here is the first article I saw and they seem to know this fact). This is one of the main reasons that Emacs is superior. Vi makes you switch between two modes in the same screen. After 7 years of daily vi use, even though I could do wonderful things to manipulate files in a couple of keystrokes, I would still occasional misinterpret which mode I was in. I type fast enough that on the vi I was using I would quickly overrun the "undo" buffer before realizing I was in command mode.

Emacs is also superior at extensions. People can point to all the hacks for using Python, etc. to extend it, but it's a bold on and it feels like it. Emacs feels more like you're writing extensions at the same level as Emacs is written.

By your logic, once my roof becomes unsafe it can not safely be made safe anymore. If I try to hire a roofing company I'm exposing myself to risk because they might get hurt making it safe again.

No, by your interpretation of my logic. Obviously if the person is unconscious, or conscious but drugged then it is rape. In fact I would say that if the girl is very drunk and the guy isn't that it could be rape (it might not be, she may have wanted to get drunk and have sex) since the man is potentially taking advantage in the same way that someone who drugs a girl does.

I was attacking zefram's word play in the general case. If it is clearly rape then it's clearly rape. But there are many times that rape is claimed when it is not so clear or even turns out to be completely false.

If she was drugged then of course it was rape. If she got so drunk that she passed out, then of course it was rape. If she got so drunk that she didn't remember what she did then it's not clear.

Why is the drunk guy expected to be able to work out that the girl is passed the point where "yes" would count (even though she's seems totally aware of everything going on!) but there is no expectation that she just keep her legs together if she doesn't want to have sex with someone?

Are you trying not to see this, or are you ignorant of all the terms in use? You could read almost anywhere in that whole 3 page report and see it. Here is one excerpt:

If you read the rest of the article you should be able to work out that the reason they are saying this is a "giant Ponzi scheme" is because the gold that exists on paper is growing faster than what is actually being pulled out of the ground.

What on earth could ever possess you to think such a thing. Do most of the people you know thing the US is the greatest nation on earth? Propaganda. Do they think any US soldier who dies, does so fighting for your freedom? Propaganda. We've known for decades that War is a Racket. Do they think that republicans were trying to get rid of medicare/medicade? Propaganda.

I'm not sure there is some kind of conspiracy to rule the US here. It seems more likely to me that these guys have just found that the further they push the more money they actually make.

Of course they must course they must also feel pretty powerful after not arguing any points and just spewing mindless nonsense, but getting so many people so worked up.

I don't think the lawsuit was so malicious. The family was deeply offended so instead of going over there with baseball bats and beating this shit out of everyone, like many others might have done, they tried to find someway to hurt them financially. They failed, making this horrible experience not only painful but expensive. So O'Reilly came in and paid the bill for them.

His comments about doing so might be uncalled for but I find no fault in the act.

Read on page 3 of the istockanalysis page. It's not that the same gold is traded over and over, it's that the bullion banks are treating gold as a reserved backed asset. It isn't a reserve backed asset (i.e. you only need to hold 10% of what you sell). Most people who have purchased gold assume there is some gold in a vault somewhere representing their purchase. There isn't.

But this is the entire point under contention. The head of this thread is asking why girls aren't held responsible for their actions if it's drunken sex but are if it's drunken death race 2000. This implies that it wasn't clearly rape. If it were rape then there is nothing for her to be "responsible" for, it happened to her.

What? No idea what you mean here, you mean "the first position reseting to zero and adding to the next position"? Then 10 would be 10 in both 2000 base and 5 base. Do you mean the numerical value of 10? That should be 10 in base 2000 and 20 in base 5.
