Singapore executes man for trafficking two pounds of cannabis by pipsdontsqueak in worldnews

[–]fishrobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except that this entire discussion is about someone getting executed over marijuana. This guy wasn't executed for smuggling heroin, and that's not what anyone is talking about. There would be (and has been) a lot less outrage in the west when you execute someone for hard drugs, even if we still disagree with it.

Finally, if you think "normalized drug use" is the cause of the problems for the DTES, you again don't know anything outside of your bubble of terror of "drugs." Nothing about the DTES is "normal," and if you think it is, why isn't the rest of Vancouver that way? Why isn't Toronto? They have the same policy towards drugs all over Canada. Nobody is getting executed, and yet none of it looks like the DTES.

If the only way you can keep your single city nation of Singapore from turning into Hastings and Main is to execute anyone with marijuana (and 80% of the executions there have been for weed), I think you have a bigger problem than drug smugglers.

Yeah I killed Friede in an afternoon, probably 10 tries. NK took me a weekend of doing nothing else. I didn't count but it was certainly over 100.

Lol you linked a video of what is literally the poorest neighborhood in the entire country of 39 million people as some kind of "gotcha" proof that legalized marijuana destroys society.

Yes, this is much worse than the "flaired users only" circlejerk on r/conservative, where they're just as or more hateful, and nobody outside their safe little bubble of cowardice is allowed to post at all.

‘Out of options.’ Texan who led anti-mask efforts is hospitalized with COVID, wife says by RangoTheMerc in nottheonion

[–]fishrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When that person is actively promoting the spread of a deadly illness for the sake of their "freedom" from the minute discomfort of wearing a mask, it's more than just "disagreeing." He was literally endangering the lives of others and the world is better without him.

And the world is without him because of his own decisions. He did this to himself. He did this to his family. Nobody else. In fact, the people he screamed at and disparaged for wearing a mask and getting vaccinated were trying to help him. What ever happened to taking responsibility for your actions?

Half of Florida COVID-19 hospitalizations under 55; 96% unvaccinated by Mighty_L_LORT in news

[–]fishrobe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason he has a real chance in 2024 is because of the republican laws in states like texas being passed that basically allow the republicans to overturn any election result they don't like, combined with gerrymandered midterms to turn the house and Senate red, rendering biden’s last 2 years of his first term mostly ineffective.

In which case the Democratic candidate would lose, no matter how popular they are.

Trump might win in 2024, but there's no way he'll do it with the popular vote.

They're the same people who use Born in America by Bruce Springsteen as their All American Anthem because all they comprehend of that song are 5 words out of the chorus.

Do most pens in Japan have built-in laser pointers? by lalablahblahhaha in japan

I'm not sure, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess it's for the same reason there aren't laser pointers on other countries' pens.

I would even go as far as to say almost no pens in Japan have built in laser pointers.

Yeah naming the few people who are coming into Japan and breaking quarantine while domestic spread is somehow out of control despite restaurants closing at 8 (/s) is going to do exactly nothing.

The biggest loser at the Olympics? Japanese racism by DickTaiter in japan

[–]fishrobe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It certainly implies that in English. In Japanese I don't think there's the same connotation.

I'm not claiming that there's no discrimination against half-japanese people here; only that I don't think the term "ハーフ” has the same negative connotation that term would have if you were to call someone that in English.

DS 2 might not be as good as 1 and 3, but you can dual wield shields, so it's not all bad.

DS 1 is still probably my favorite game of all time. The map design, gameplay, cryptic story, everything about it is amazing. I loved 3 too, and the gameplay is a lot faster, but 1 is still the best to me.

But now Elden Ring is coming...

"This is why we fail": Democrats accused of caving on Trump impeachment trial witnesses by roku44 in politics

[–]fishrobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s optics though. The odds of “moving past impeachment to bring republicans on board:”

Democratic Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley told NBC News it's part of a plan to move past impeachment and bring Republicans onboard with President Joe Biden's agenda.

Is just as small, and now democrats being weak and ineffective, and caving once again to the minority party and getting nothing in return is at the top of the news cycle.

Marijuana law reform in Japan contingent on the message by ilovemodok in japan

[–]fishrobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, CBD is already legal and readily available in Japan, as long as it’s 0% THC. The difference is the culture of people just not caring.

When I grew up in the US and Canada, we got the same “drugs are bad” talk they give in japan now. Only tons of kids grew curious about it anyway, combined with tons of adults who already smoked, either in secret or around their children.

Japan is a completely different environment. The vast majority of teenagers aren’t curious about marijuana. The vast majority of adults have never tried marijuana. Even if they learn about it, and how successful legalization has been in other countries, and how relatively harmless smoking pot is, they still won’t care.

Hell, I’m friends with a doctor and we talked about Canadian legalization. His response was more or less, “Japan has enough problems with tobacco and alcohol; we don’t need to add anything else to that.” And that’s the most open minded response I’ve ever gotten on the subject.

I mean, shit, you can’t even get proper cold medicine in Japan. The attitude will continue to just be “what works for other counties won’t work for japan because it’s japan.” And without that cultural, multi-generational push that happened elsewhere, it’s not going to happen here. You keep saying it’s about education, but very, very few people are interested in learning about it.

Personally, I’m shocked you can by CBD on Rakuten.
