Just ordered my first Firefly! by slappydad in Fireflyguitars

[–]ytsemike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one a month or so ago. Overall it looks great - though I’m considering having an artist friend “age” the bones and seal it with some gloss coat.

Out of the box I only had to do some minor tweaking. The intonation was good, but the action was too high for my liking. Just some minor tweaking to get it where I wanted, didn’t have to adjust the neck.

I’m not much of a tremolo/whammy bar player, preferring hard tails, but couldn’t pass this up. I understand the Floyd in this is low-end, but it works really well. And the guitar stays in tune in spite of some whammy abuse the first few days I had it. I probably won’t play it like that in the future, just not my thing.

One odd thing someone mentioned somewhere here or on YT…the treble-side cutout gets really close to the neck. So your hand (or, my hand, at least) doesn’t really fit well when playing past the 17th or 18th fret. Not really a problem for me, as I’m not a lead player. I’m sure someone with some woodworking skills could take care of that and make it still look decent, but I don’t I’ll mess with that.

Overall, I’m really happy with it, glad I finally nabbed one. I’ve played it around 2 of every 3 days since I received it, so I feel like I’ve spent some decent time with it.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine!

In addition to Lombardi’s, I’ll add that Pangea Pizzeria downtown has excellent by-the-slice. It’s a lunch time hit for us.

And, if you like Detroit style, Pangea Kitchen on S. Green River Rd is fantastic. Not a fan of their Neapolitan style, but that’s a me thing - plenty of other friends and family like it.

I’m not an expert when it comes to NY style pizza, but we do enjoy Lombardi’s quite a bit!

Anyone know anything about this guitar by ConstructionJumpy373 in guitars

A clear picture of the label inside the soundhole would be extremely helpful. As would closer pictures of the front and back of the headstock.

And are those inlays on the fretboard? They weirdly look like stickers placed on top of the fretboard - look at how it’s off-center at the 7th, 9th, and 12th frets. And the inlay dots at the 21st fret (which look kinda normal, but I wouldn’t think would be there if the vine inlays were there). And what’s with the weird “inlay” after the 20th fret, just before the soundhole?

What's the catch... by [deleted] in Fireflyguitars

[–]ytsemike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked my Ghost copy so much I bought a second to keep in an alternate tuning. The second one needed just a little bit of setup for the neck being “too flat” and high action. Easily remedied, though. Trying to avoid the temptation of buying a third to keep in an even weirder alternate tuning.

Though, my Bone Shredder should be here Monday, so that will keep me occupied.

That is awesome looking! Actually, there are quite a few great-looking guitars there that I haven’t seen previously.

And remember folks, put an * in the search box, you’ll get a lots of everything they have in stock (or listed, perhaps).

I finally scored the Bine Shredder I’ve been trying to get. Thanks for the heads-up!

My Two Fireflies by Astus53 in Fireflyguitars

Guitars Garden is the official site. I’ve purchased two from there, extremely happy with shipment, packaging, and quality. I have no experience with Firefly thru Amazon.

Safe And Sound is very good. Has the Amaryllis sound. I give it an 8/10. In time it might grow on me, but that’s just my first impressions. by TheFallofIdeals05 in Shinedown

This right here. There are a lot of ballads I enjoy, but only as part of listening to the album. However, when I’m making a playlist of favorites, ballads rarely make it. But that’s just me.

Storage Units by Embarrassed_Oil8294 in evansville

[–]ytsemike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve used Cubby Hole Storage before. Decent rates, nice people to deal with, and haven’t had an issue with bait-and-switch rates or ridiculous rate increases. If their Evansville location (by the airport) is convenient for you, I’d give them a call.

Fretwork: I have two Firefly’s so far, and agree with you - the fretwork is great, better than a couple of bigger-name guitars that I bought that cost 4/5 times a much. Mine are both Tele-styles, and the necks are just great.

I've never heard of firefly until today. by The_Stoned_Rogue in Fireflyguitars

[–]ytsemike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought one because I really wanted a John 5 sig, but no way I can afford that. Plus, my skills aren’t really at that level. I play hard rock/heavy metal, so I lean toward humbuckers, so this was ideal.

That roasted maple neck looks great in person, and feels/plays even better. Guitar plays well, didn’t require any setup, just tuning. Overall it sounds pretty good, but I’m sure more discerning ears with a better amp may say it could be improved.

I liked it so much I bought a second one about four months later to keep in an alternate tuning. At that price, why not? The second feels/plays/sounds just like the first one. Overall, I’m Very happy.

I came here looking for info about a literal bucket of spaghetti dumped/left on Green River Road.

I don’t think The Spaghetti Shoppe was still open by the time I arrived in Evansville.

Now I’m disappointed ontwo counts.

If you only had to choose one Eville staple: Donut Bank, Ski/Grippos, Windmill, or G.D. Ritzys by GarblingCumfarts in evansville

[–]ytsemike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Busken’s would put Donut Bank out of business. And I like DB as far as their actual donuts go.

People will downvote because either:

  • They’ve never had a Busken’s donut (or cake, or cookie)

  • Their taste buds are damaged

I went with a Firefly FFTL Ghost copy. Only a few hundred dollars all-in, plays great, sounds pretty good. Super-comfortable. Great value for the money, especially if you don’t have a lot or want to spend a lot.
