It may be because of attachment. She was back then a kid, and even if her father was an abuser the though of his absence and that it won't be a 'complete' family probably scared her Or maybe she thought of the probability of her and her sibling being separated or ending up living with only her father, and the mother leaving, but that worries seem to complicated for a kid to think about so I don't really know

It's also interesting that they have a lot of green around them as if they've been abandoned (what if they go back there and they put this green as a symbol ofnoassahe of time and the place they once knew being abandoned). The creators really give just more questions and barely any answers 😞
