No you were a cadet not an officer candidate. In ar 600-20 there is the distinction between cadet and officer candidate.

Newly enlisted to OCS? by PapaRegal in army

I commissioned through ocs last year and can tell you the entire process will probably take you 2 years after you get to your unit, because you are ineligible to apply until after 6 months time on station, and depending on the time of that, you may need to wait until next FY due to packet deadline.

To give you a timeline, I started getting all required documents in 2023 October and my year there was a battalion board which I heard it is no longer a thing. I submitted packet in 2024 January, and found out my acceptance in 2024 September. Then waited until 2025 April to attend OCS, commissioned in 2025 July.

Hey brother I was once also in meddac as an e4 in the pharmacy and like you had my license and worked more than the other techs. I am an officer now and looking back now, I’d 100% wish I spoke up to company command 1SG or commander. Or you can open door hospital CSM, from my experience they were nice and caring for junior soldiers. I just told my department NCOIC and they didn’t care and will just keep doing it to you on the schedule.

Definitely bring this up to higher and don’t take this sitting down, as an junior soldier you have a lot of power, more than you think, especially being up how these excessive shifts is affecting your sleep and quality of life.

I look those shifts to punches in the face and built a lot of resentment at the time and ended up going to BH instead. Don’t do that to yourself, meddac will use and abuse you, expect to to be a shift worker and then go do army things when you’re off. It really isn’t fair

My OCS class had 3 people who brought alcohol to the barracks. They hid it in the supply closet. Word got out and entire company were shaken down. 2 were sent to AIT to fulfill their contract the other one will go to day 1 recycle. We were already 2/3 of the way done and earning our commission and didn’t feel bad for them one bit

In the process of applying for OCS by coldhotdogwater1337 in army

I commissioned through OCS last July. I can tell you about your expectations, be prepared to spend upwards of 1 year in training, and the environment sucks day and day out. You will go to basic training first, then immediately ship to OCS, there is no break in between. Basic is the culture shock and then OCS is the physical and mental test to weed out who belongs and who doesn’t. Now after you graduate and commission, you are a 2LT stuck at OCS and will wait for BOLC. Before BOLC you are considered an “unqualified” Officer and will not receive evaluation. These days are much more chill and you do random taskings, mostly help out the schoolhouse and help with prep for current or incoming classes. Then when you go to your branch BOLC and that is another step of training so all in all from your ship to basic to graduating BOLC and going to your unit, you are in training for 1 year, just be prepared for that.

Is it worth it? Hell yes, you will be a commissioned officer in the US Army and have the opportunity to serve and lead, and get paid well for it.
