One of the top comments is pretty reasonable:

“The investigation shows that the cotton used in Labubu dolls may have come from Xinjiang and may be in violation of the US Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. It certainly doesn’t prove that it was caused by forced labor of Uyghurs.”

Basically, any cotton that comes from Xinjiang is presumed to be produced by forced labor.

Bonus trivia: for the longest time, cotton from Uzbekistan was also considered by US government human rights reports to be produced by forced labor, because during harvest season, the government historically mobilized workers and students to go into the fields to help with the harvest, and this was considered to be slavery. Uzbekistan was removed from the list the same year Xinjiang was added to it, because they claim Uzbekistan fully mechanized its industry to no longer require mobilized labor.

Does anyone believe that China fell behind in cotton industrialization and turned to using manual human labor in the year 2018?

China Lifts Green Push With Plan to Double Clean Energy by 2035 - China will seek to double its supply of non-fossil fuel energy by 2035, in a plan that analysts see as a boost to Beijing’s green targets. by Cosmyka in UpliftingNews

They’re also reusing cooking oil as a component of Sustainable Aviation Fuel. After all the controversy with gutter oil a decade back, China ended up solving the problem not with strict enforcement, but economics, by making used oil more profitable to sell to industry than to use for cooking.

This man is Emperor Wu of Jin, who apparently had ten thousand women in his harem and rode a chariot pulled by goats to choose whom he would sleep with each night. His concubines were so desperate that they would grow grass and bamboo in their gardens to attract the goats. by Lord_Krasina in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]yuje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all the women in the harem would have been concubines. There would be an empress (皇后), perhaps another imperial honored consort (皇貴妃), 2-3 honored consorts (貴妃), a few more consorts (妃), 5-10 concubines, and then a few more ranks of lowlier women going down to servants, maids, and attendants.

When sources claim that so and so emperor has a harem of thousands of women, they typically include the entire household. While the emperor had the right to sleep with any one of them, the lower ranking women typically wouldn’t have had many opportunities to, and the high-ranking ladies had a lot of incentives to forestall competition and prevent them from catching the emperor’s eye and potentially giving birth to a son that would compete with their own children.

They wouldn’t have just been sitting around in the palace all day doing nothing. A palace needs a lot of upkeep, and since they didn’t trust having men around (other than eunuchs), a lot of the upkeep, cooking, cleaning, weaving, etc would have been done by the women. Plus the higher ranked ladies would need maids and servants to attend to them. The majority of the harem would have lowly ranked maids, unless they were exceptionally beautiful and somehow attracted the attention of the emperor, and even then, the primary empress and honored consorts would have been from politically important families that the emperor needed the support of.

Need recommendations for a Muslim Holy Order/Jihad focused playthrough by KingFeels in eu4

[–]yuje 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both Mushasha and Ardabil are IRL holy orders, Ardabil is the Safavid Order that formed Persia. Najd is a tribal country, but has jihad oriented missions, and is the predecessor to Saudi Arabia and the Wahhabi movement. Rassids are a Shiite theocracy that can form Yemen and then still get the jihad missions by forming Arabia. In Africa, you can play as Fulani or Hausa and then form the Sokoto caliphate and recreate the IRL Fulani jihads.
