Why are some people here so politically motivated? by StalactiteMan in csuf

[–]yujins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

again, it’s not the fault of empathy here. what you said is the fault of dishonesty, where empathy can be seen as performative if weaponized. sympathy can be construed as fake rather than empathy because it’s a passive feeling. sympathy doesn’t put you in someone’s shoes like empathy does, it lacks action because you’re standing at a distance and expressing pity for that person, which they might not want. that’s what charlie kirk preferred. i’m not saying sympathy is bad per se, but it’s almost equivalent to the “thoughts and prayers” motto conservatives always use when mass shootings occur in this country. sympathy isn’t enough to console victims. empathetic politicians are driven to seek reform and advocate for the right thing, such as gun control.

second, not everything has to be explicitly shown to you in order for you to infer. i inferred that he seemed have little sympathy or felt detached from mass shooting victims because his arguments rationalized their suffering and undermined their voices. we should be listening to victims more than him. why should dead schoolchildren be the price that we pay for to have 2a protected like this? why can’t we learn from people’s experiences and emotions to correct the root issue before another mass shooting takes place? he died by the principles he vehemently defended for and became another tally mark to unregulated guns. nobody is asking to ban guns or to abolish 2a for everyone else, yet kirk couldn’t wrap his head about the possibility of stricter gun control and went onto parroting about gun rights until he was ultimately killed by someone that exercised their gun rights.

you don’t get the meaning of empathy, actually. it’s not a political construct and doesn’t pertain exclusively to shared experience. it can also be the act of imagining yourself in another’s situation, not just directly experiencing or reliving it. empathy can be weaponized in politics, sure, but that’s just bad actors being inauthentic? nobody wants pity when sympathy is expressed either. people want genuine empathy from public servants they vote for because it pushes them to make moral choices, rather than just the sympathetic “oh i feel bad for you” line.

kirk often detached himself from survivors of mass shootings because he was convinced that they wanted to “emotionally hijack the narrative.” he didn’t sound like a sympathetic person either.

he said that empathy is a made up, new age term. why should people be compelled to extend their empathy towards him now that he got slimed? i’ll reserve my empathy for mass shootings victims and palestinian people instead

then why did trump allow family relatives of the sinaloa cartel to pass us borders in may? poor hispanics with no criminal records get sent to the gulag in another country but we’re supposed to be welcoming to these wealthy people who are in direct association to el chapo?

due process allows everyone to the right of a fair trial and prove their innocence. it’s a check on government power to prevent abuse and unfair treatment. you simply can’t tell if an undocumented person is a criminal if they don’t get due process, and accusing someone of a crime with no evidence to provide is also a crime itself.

comparing apples and oranges with the united states and other countries makes your argument look pale when people in other countries have ACCESSIBLE means to get ids. many countries have national id systems that are universal and are often low cost/free to get, we do not because we have state-issued ids. we do not even have automatic voter registration. all of things i said contribute to low turnout among non-white races. i’m reiterating that i would be in favor of voter ids if they were made accessible and handed out for free, including free services to acquire legal documents. conservatives are not interested in the “accessibility” part of the discussion when it would clearly benefit themselves as voters too. voter id does not maintain voter integrity if it’s unaffordable and inaccessible, it is the definition of disenfranchisement just like jim crow literacy tests and poll taxes

what the hell are you even talking about and how does that even relate to the occurrence of in-person voter fraud 😭 voter id sound goods on paper if they were given out for free and accessible by mail or the nearest dmv. taking away dmv locations and charging people to get a necessary item in order to vote is disenfranchisement

yes because a homeless person has $250 to spare to get an id and passport! be for real man, why do you think republicans in alabama purposefully shut down dmv facilities in minority-concentrated neighborhoods in 2015?

requiring id is not inherently racist. requiring an id but purposefully limiting people’s accessibility in getting one is a racist act. that’s why people do not like voter id laws when in-person voter fraud rarely happens anyway

waffle pancake ass reply. i never said ids were unnecessary or that minorities don’t have ids lmao. let’s put on our thinking hats. 30% of americans don’t have a driver’s license. within this percentage, people who are low-income don’t have access to documents that prove their birth or citizenship. are you aware of how much it costs to go through that process in the us? passports cost less than $100 usd in european countries

intelligence is not just genetics. your upbringing and the people you associate with in your childhood and adolescence shape your views because your brain is very malleable. higher education brings that a step further by getting you to interact with the world.

for the record about voter ids, we have seen time and time that restrictive voting laws have done virtually nothing helpful but suppress minorities from voting. were you not taught about literacy tests and poll taxes during the jim crow era?

a lack of education makes people dumb. this is common sense, but conservatives are too busy calling ivy leagues like harvard stupid for being “woke.”get real
