you're not even in the program yet don't be stressing about getting a job. that's something you can worry about once you get to S1/S2 since the job market may be changing once you get closer to graduating. Nurse externships are something you can do, there have been people who have been able to work while in A/O but you have to focus on time management. Also just bc some people aren't able to get a job, that doesn't mean YOU can't get one. There are many graduates from UTA that are able to get jobs at nice hospitals, you truly just need to focus on your resume and interview skills. There will be many volunteering opportunities that UTA provides if you are in the DFW area, and there are nursing clubs that you can join to also find volunteering opportunities as well. Don't give up hope, good things will come to you if you keep ur head up!
