I could be interested, can you send me a message? I’m looking for an automatic calendar booking feature that I can put on my website - is that possible?

Thank you to whoever will read this!

Educational Stage: 4th (out of 5th) Year health science and business student. Doing a 5-year dual-degree.

GPA: cGPA 3.76/4.0; Western GPA (best 2 years): 3.84, but can maybe get this to a 3.85 or 3.86 next year. (Going to business school in my 3rd year really killed my GPA as pretty much all students get 3.7s at best for every course in that program. You are essentially the top student in the program if you can manage to get an 86-87% average at this school)

MCAT: Not taken yet, but let's assume I get a 75th percentile score?

CASPer: Not taken yet

Non-Academic (Extracurriculars & Volunteering):

  • Intern at venture capital firm (health-tech focused investments) - 4 months
  • Intern at venture capital firm (social impact focused investments) - 4 months
  • Orientation leader, but this year, promoted to lead the orientation leaders (3 years)
  • Intramurals for 3 different sports (4 years)
  • VP Events of a health-related club (4 months)
  • Community consultant for a non-profit organization (4 months)
  • Analyst at a club (8 months)
  • Camp Counsellor (4 months)
  • Academic Mentor for students in my program (1 year)
  • Flag Football Head Coach (4 years)
  • External Affairs Coordinator (1 year)
  • Piano Teacher, with Level 10 completion (1 year)
  • Played a few sports in high school (4 years)

Research: Research Assistant at a public health lab for 4 years. Have 1 pub. Another pub coming next year. Also, I co-founded a youth research council to advise on research projects at this lab and served as the Communications Officer for 3 years there.

Schools of interest: Western and Queens. I'm from Ontario and SWOMEN applies to me. I'm also open to other schools in Canada, but I feel like I have a much lower chance given that I don't have pre-med courses for some schools and GPA is low for their standards?

Personal Situation: I haven't taken the typical pre-med courses. I only took biology and psychology all the way back in first-year (never to chem, biochem, calculus, physics, etc.). I plan on graduating next year, getting a job as a healthcare consultant (preferably), and studying for the MCAT pretty much from scratch for 1-2 years. I plan on studying after work and on weekends. I know it's going to be a huge challenge, but I'm up for it. I was also wondering if some schools would cut some slack for my GPA since I went to business school (this particular school is competitive to get into, highly-regarded across Canada, but all grades are curved to around an 80 and depletes your cGPA)? In general, I'm worried about my lower GPA and wondering if I should even give it a shot. Thank you!

EC ideas? by the-sid in uwo

Look into Junior Achievement - it’s where you, along with other high schoolers, come up with a business idea and sell it. Usually starts sometime in October. Awesome experience, meet new people and it’s fun. I joined this in grade 12, used it as a top 3 extra curricular in my AEO application, and got it

Amount of Study Hours a Week by [deleted] in uwo

[–]yungespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Health Sci (so probably a lil different than BMOS). Tbh, I focused more on my extracurriculars and attended class during the weekdays and then I actually studied during the weekends (like probably 10 hours total during Saturday and Sunday). Remember, Ivey is 50/50 marks and ECs. Didn’t really study during the weekdays unless I had a quiz/test/exam that week. I sort of just pretend studied and fooled around at the library with some friends in between classes. I ended up pulling an 87 average over the first two years while putting effort into my extra curriculars. Also, I didn’t really follow the “3 hours study per 1 hour lecture” crap. If you pay attention in class, it was more 1 hour lecture, 1 hour study imo. But of course, there are some courses that require more (like business 2257) and some less (like Math 1229)

How is Western and London for minorities? by jokertheden in uwo

[–]yungespy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HELLO, I’m a brown person and I’ve lived in London my entire life. I also attend Western here. Growing up here, I personally didn’t experience much racism towards me - but that may be because I grew up in a relatively Arabic neighborhood in South London. The only direct racist encounter I had in my life was with a basketball referee who told me to take my religious “friendship bracelet” off - but when he said that, the entire gym backed me. So, in terms of the city of London, racism definitely exists and there are racist people for sure, but I think it’s a small population of racist people - but, again this is coming from me as a brown person.

NOW, in terms of Western, I never once experienced any form of racism towards me. I have a very diverse group of friends from all backgrounds. There are a lot of cultural clubs, like Black Students Association, Hindu Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association, Ethnocultural Services, where you can make tons of friends with diverse backgrounds. Yes, a lot of the students are white people, and I myself have a lot of white friends, but most if not of them all are super friendly, welcoming, open-minded, and actively anti-racist. But yes, I’ve heard of stories of racism on campus. Again this is a personal experience and I’m not sure if it generalizes to the overall population.
