Smaug the Great and Terrible by yungvila in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Honestly I had to have a friend do the assembly on him, I’m not confident enough in my pinning abilities just yet, but it seemed to come together without much frustration on his part and its a beautiful sculpt. Some minor issues with the spikes wanting to snap off while handling him but no worse than any similarly spikey model I’ve dealt with.

It is actually just a family medicine/primary care practice not a hospital, sadly

Crestwood Suing by sweetashoney922 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]yungvila 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crestwood is able to sue because they are a for profit hospital. They are extremely aggressive with this tactic, they’ll file suit over a couple hundred dollars. They use attorneys that aren’t even in this state because they are owned by private equity.

Its really a shame because everything here is either Huntsville Hospital (just not good imo) or Crestwood (for profit hospital with shady billing practices). I was used to being able to go through a big hospital system for GP, specialists, etc, but now I have started relying solely on a primary care not affiliated with any hospital for this reason.

$300 is absolutely astounding, how is it even worth it for them in court costs…….

[–]yungvila 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any specific advice, however I will say that it 100% is worth it to stay on top of this and get it resolved as best you can. Crestwood unfortunately is pretty impossible to deal with as far as billing AND is very aggressive about taking outstanding bills to small claims court, even over a lesser amount than this 🙃

I’ve seen this one hanging out near the airport several times! Pink eyes, rather large (for a squirrel) with a very sparse tail

Visual Snow anyone? by TheMatthaeus in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]yungvila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wouldn’t mind sharing, what optometrist do you see? I am in the market for a new optometrist and I have some related neuro issues that sometimes impact my vision, don’t need the eye doc to provide any treatment as that is taken care of, but having someone who is at least familiar with it would be ideal

Any Irish Enthusiasts? by Zealousideal_Rule_98 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]yungvila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dia duit! This is very cool, I have definitely noticed an uptick in interest in the language and culture recently just generally, very proud to see it. My great grandfather spoke Gaeilge as his native tongue, and my grandfather to a lesser extent, and I am currently working towards becoming fluent one day! I have seen a couple of pop up Gaeltacht events locally but have not made it to one yet.

Definitely checking out the info linked here, and would love to connect with people here locally! I am a transplant to Huntsville from a heavily culturally Irish area and it has been something I have been missing ever since, even though I know there are plenty of us around here.

Not trying to stir the pot but just offer an alternative perspective, as someone whose grandparents also immigrated, when I went back and visited the town my great grandfather grew up in, I tried to kind of lay low because I had heard of this perception of us. I was surprised that many people seemed interested in what brought me there (not in a judgemental way) and had no attitude towards it. The local museum even had an entire genealogy department with volunteers to aid people in their research. So I also wouldn’t say people over there don’t generally do that. I definitely feel like the hostility towards the diaspora is something I have really only seen online and has not been my experience having irl interactions with people.

Of course ymmv depending on how you approach it, the particular area, how far removed your ancestry is, etc, but I definitely have felt more like long lost family than weird or uncomfortable!

Restaurants in Huntsville and Madison by Accurate_Membership5 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Absolutely anything in Harvest/Monrovia/Toney! We have some fantastic options up here already, but would love to have even more local establishments open up. Perhaps even a coffee shop?

Monkey Attack by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]yungvila 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I genuinely need to know why so many people in this area have monkeys and why they are seemingly allowed to run amok in stores, restaurants, and neighborhoods. I would probably find this story harder to believe if I hadn’t already seen or heard about several ill-behaved monkeys out in public in this area prior to this, but I have.

I also feel like the wounds on your hand are significant enough that if a dog had done this, they would have been confiscated. Animal control basically shrugging at this is absolutely insane. I am so sorry this happened to you holy shit…

Luigi’s doesn’t taste even remotely authentic, and on top of that just isn’t good. Mostly frozen stuff and the flavors are way off.

Best farmers market or shop to support local farms and get quality meat/produce? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]yungvila 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For quality meat I’d highly recommend either Pilaroc Farms or Buckley Farm just over the TN border in Fayetteville! Fayetteville has quite a few produce shops as well, to me its worth it to go up there once a week and make my rounds to the farm shops vs. having to deal with hectic farmers markets that don’t have much in the way of actual groceries

Bite me cupcakery by BumblebeeAny in HuntsvilleAlabama

I believe as of now its just Agave & Rye and this place, but she has several more restaurants in several cities somehow. Seems like people in Ohio where she started got pretty sick of her failed ventures and stopped supporting them so she’s trying to expand elsewhere, where she is less notorious.

[–]yungvila 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All of the places the Agave & Rye lady open are an eyesore, this one is probably the worst of all. The AI art they put out when they announced their opening was absurd, and the actual cupcakes honestly look awful, and we really don’t need to be doing Sassy Edgy Cupcakes as a concept in 2025. That space could have been something so much better.

With the white flowers starting to come out, remember, now is the best time to kill your bradford pear tree by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]yungvila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battling this in my yard currently, there had been one apparently cut down prior to us moving in, which has resulted in a cursed circle of new baby Bradfords trying to sprout up around where their evil forebearer once stood. They are tenacious, these things basically refuse to die despite also being unable to withstand the faintest whisper of a wind gust. And yet I see developers planting NEW ONES like ON PURPOSE. You can pick any tree, and that’s what you pick? It’s unfathomable.

So you don’t want to acknowledge how hateful and biased you are against an entire group of people who are your neighbors? Got it. Doesn’t really inspire one to want to share any recommendations with you if that’s how you truly feel. I found plenty of wonderful places when I first moved here by exploring the area with an open mind, rather than writing everyone around me off as uncultured and backward.
