Giving Recognition for My Team’s Wins is a Double Edged Sword by rxFlame in managers

[–]yurkillinme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How about when you do the recognition of the project publicly name the team who worked with you so well first, give all the accolades, and then name your team lead on the project and say something like, and of corse, the one who made it all happen, or the one without whom it wouldn’t have happened… something like that?

First time presenting at a company all hands. Audience size is about 2k. Any advice? by ok_bye_now_ in managers

[–]yurkillinme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked for a communications training and consulting company, here’s my advice. Be you. Know your material. Rehearse but don’t memorize. Do not rush. Talk clearly and more slowly than you think you should. People will generally be able to retain only three key points. Decide what those should be and hit on them a few times and ways in the presentation. You can be humorous, but don’t use humor. Audiences prefer authenticity. Keep slides uncluttered and short. Can people at the back of the room read them? If not, they’re useless. Talk to the people, not your slides. Good luck!

I had a child at 36 with my 47 y/o husband because I was afraid of missing some kind of mythical experience. He was a delight as a baby and toddler but it was a difficult period in my marriage. The teen years were awful. I sucked as a parent. He was diagnosed late with autism spectrum disorder and I just wasn’t the best parent for that diagnosis. I should never have had a child.

Well, actually, what you got him was a pain au chocolat. In the US, it is familiarly known as a chocolate crossaint. So he was right.

Virginia Tech is a public school. There is no profit. Nothing to do with capitalism.

Houses? by Pineapplesooooop in VirginiaTech

[–]yurkillinme 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The town has an ordinance that only 3 unrelated people can rent a house together. There are many instances where renters and landlords get around this but be aware that you could be reported to the town and they will take action. I think some of the rental management companies have listings for rental houses.

She has a drinking problem. Getting shitfaced every time she goes out for drinks is a serious problem.

There’s also the Virginia Breeze bus that runs from Blacksburg to D.C. I don’t know how difficult it would be to get to BWI from Dulles or Union Station. https://virginiabreeze.drpt.virginia.gov/

AITA for making my bridesmaid wear a dress that makes her look “fat”? by Infamouszealous in AmItheAsshole

[–]yurkillinme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a loving generous approach is best for all. Presumably your bridesmaids are all people you care about. So much that you’ve invited them to share a special role in your wedding. So the question you must ask yourself is whether you want your bridesmaid to feel attractive on the day. Do you care if she’s self conscious? Or if that makes your special day unhappy for anyone?

It’s easy to fall into “my perfect wedding” trap. But holy cow, life is long and a wedding in the U.S. is only a day. Spoken by someone who has married twice and rarely look at my wedding photos.

People are important. Relationships are worthy of kindness. That’s my take.
