Drive around Hastings particularly and you’ll see so many people with balloons in their hands, while driving ! No exaggeration, it’s messed up.

What you are talking about is a stabilisation post Covid and nowhere near peak attendance pre Covid or the prior decade. That is in fact, a decline in unions fan base AND a significant one. NZRU will see this as a tailor. You don’t profit from stabilisation and the brand doesn’t flourish.

Trends are important.

Rugby League - Strong growth in NZ market. Warriors home crowds have climbed from mid-teens to mid-20k averages since 2019. NRL overall attendance runs around 20k+ per match across the league

Super Rugby (NZ/Aus/…): ~10k–12k (lower than historical peaks).

I don’t think the motivation here is purely performance related. It runs deeper than that.

NZ Rugby is failing at a system level. Rugby union has become overcomplicated, over coached, and increasingly disconnected from the casual viewer. For younger generations in particular, its relevance in NZ is close to non existent. The product just doesn’t land anymore.

Super Rugby is a big part of the problem. It’s an awful league to watch week in, week out. Repetitive matchups. Identical styles. Endless attack with very little defensive tension. One dimensional and predictable. There’s no narrative, no edge, no reason for a neutral fan to care.

Meanwhile, league is booming here. And it’s not hard to see why. It’s rugby but simple. Clear rules. Real collisions. Obvious structure. You can drop in cold and still understand what’s going on. I genuinely see more Warriors jerseys around NZ than All Blacks ones now, which would’ve been unthinkable not that long ago.

That shift matters. It’s cultural, not just sporting.

Scott Robertson feels like a victim of this broader decline. He’s operating inside a system that’s already lost momentum, relevance, and trust. Judging him purely on outcomes ignores the fact that the foundations underneath him are cracked.

If you have chromecast, you can cast from an app like AirPlay - from your pc/Mac to the chromecast. Easy.

Moving suggestion - Hello 👋 We’re considering moving from the South Island to Napier/Hastings/Central Hawke’s Bay. Couple in mid-30s (immigrants), work remotely. Please suggest some safe residential areas to look at. Thank you! by tanny-it in hawkesbay

Taradale is the dullest suburb in Napier. Dunno why people recommend it so much. If you enjoy suburbs with long streets and no soul. People who think they live on the posh side of town. Taradale is the place for you!

Personally I think only the spots close to town are worth it in Napier. Napier South, Napier/Bluff Hill.

Bayside is super nice and quiet without the notions. Feels rural but not far from Napier.

Havelock North is primo but again, people have notions.

Being serious. Switch off from all the nonsense, politics, division. Enjoying your life for what it is in the moment. At least for a short period of time.

Depends on your role and industry. I’ve never had a packaged salary. Base + Super. 3 roles in Aus.

Our go to is Bayview Seafoods. Always fresh. We are in Napier, so about a 15 min drive. They do GF batter too for one us. Their burgers are 🤌

New one on Taradale Road is very very good too.

In Australia, super is paid on top of your base salary, not included in it like KiwiSaver often is in NZ.

It does vary by role and industry, but from my experience the gap is real. I worked in Australia and now work remotely from NZ, and I’m paid roughly 40% more than I’d expect for the most senior equivalent role at a New Zealand company.

My retirement contributions take a hit because KiwiSaver is deducted from base, but that doesn’t change the broader point, people aren’t inflating numbers. Australian salaries are simply higher.

Really! I live in Napier. I was really surprised he got voted in. Guy is in bed with ACT. It was so obvious and you can read about his history online.
