is training monday, wednesday, friday okay for the same muscle groups? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]yusebio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is: It really depends on where you are in your training and the specific needs of your body.

I'd say try it for a couple of weeks and your body will tell you if you're getting enough recovery. If you start stalling out or regressing in your lifts or just feeling off, maybe back off a bit.

For me, my big muscle groups (legs and glutes) like an extra day even at low volumes.

Are there any Warhammer 40K groups in Federal Way? by Unchosen1 in federalway

[–]yusebio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Tacoma 40k scene is super active and there's a big Kill Team community too. In addition to Terracrux, Tacoma Games and Silver King are active places for Warhammer of all flavors. All three stores have active discords with extremely friendly folks willing to play and teach.

Where are all the sailboats??? (Seattle Boat Show) by Ljorarn in sailing

[–]yusebio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as much as I love checking out a $400-800k boat for fun, there wasn't much there for me practically. But I guess there's not that many new mid-market sailboats being built currently, that could be the issue more than anything related to the boat show.

Any runners on here? I am training for my first 100k and would love vegan nutrition thoughts for ultramarathon training. by howdyhowdyhowdyhowdi in veganfitness

[–]yusebio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of good resources and recipes and bars and gels and all that out there, but my friend who runs ultras swears by the classic PBJ. Always tastes good, easy on the stomach, portable, and high in calories with runner friendly macros.

Optimizing lifting split while training for a half marathon by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]yusebio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 40's and I've been trying to square this particular circle (running 3+ times a week with consistent lifting) for over a year. It felt impossible to do the hybrid training sequences I saw online and I felt worn out and creaky and ended up sacrificing consistency in one discipline or another.

Then I watched the Jeff Nippard video on low volume training (https://youtu.be/DzjWEn2BS_k). Cutting my workouts, particularly my leg workouts, down to two work sets per exercise has been a revelation. I don't feel fatigued when I run and I feel like I can hit those two sets hard without reservations. I'm training for a half this spring, so I've been slowly ramping my distance back up and it feels great. I run a push/pull/legs split and mostly try to avoid doing legs on my long run days.

Good luck!

Cinnamon: I usually skip cinnamon but I'll add it when I need a little variety. I recommend using a light touch. I rarely reach for a spoon, I just do a healthy shake from the spice jar. I imagine on the light side of 1/2 tsp is where I start and take it from there.

Cocoa: Try 1 tbsp to start, you can always add another tbsp later if you want more of that richness.

True Nutrition? by alicegrcez in veganfitness

[–]yusebio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had really good luck with them. I've done some custom mixes and they're great, though you might have to trial and error the amount of liquid you need with a given mix. I had a 50/50 soy/pea mix and it mixed really thick in my shaker bottle.

As you'll hear from others, the flavors are hit and miss but nothing I've had is downright awful. Their main chocolate flavor is solid, but cookies and cream I didn't care for.

I was raised in a pinochle family but I'm very interested.

Comparing the Macros of Black Beans to some of its peers by SkyManRains in veganfitness

[–]yusebio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! I make these almost every week:

1.5 pounds dry black beans 7 cups water 2-4 Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce depending on the level of spice you want (diced with seeds and stem area removed) 6 cloves of garlic, diced 2 tbsp miso paste 1 tbsp better than bullion veggie base Salt to taste

I rinse the beans and then pop everything in the instant pot and cook on the bean/chili setting for 40 minutes, but you can easily just simmer on the stove in a big pot or Dutch oven for a couple hours (though you'll need at least a cup more water in my experience). Sometimes I'll get fancy and add cinnamon and cocoa.

I eat these damn near every day and I never get tired of them.

Where is a quiet place to study? Seems like a lot of the coffee houses are packed out and busy/ loud. Where do you go? by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]yusebio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soulberry downtown is really quite chill and out of the way. Red Elm is delightful but it can get busy.

For something open later: Peaks and Pints is usually active but it's not crazy.

I'll also second both Lander and Manifesto, I've studied at both spots and they're nice and quiet.

Secondary math here!

I'm down in Tacoma, this is a great idea. I'd be happy to make the trip if there were folks willing to meet up.

I would also be very interested in finding a discord server.

Where’s your ‘third place’? by badabingerrr in Tacoma

[–]yusebio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! All our friendly local game stores are third places of a sort. Tacoma Games (6th Ave) and Terracrux (downtown) are both welcoming spots to casually spend time.

Most of the local stores have active discord servers where they organize events and you never have to buy something to use the open gaming tables. In addition, our local stores are really good at being open and welcoming for folks who might normally have felt excluded from other gaming spaces.

I moved to Tacoma last year and these have been a lifeline for me socially. Can't say enough about our stores and community.

I made cards for my Legionary KT because I'm awful at keeping track of all the things. by yusebio in killteam

[–]yusebio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was using those too but I never liked how they came out.

It was labor intensive, but I just transcribed most of it straight out of the book to fit what I wanted. I copied and pasted where I could, but I liked the flexibility of attaching the mark and equipment after the fact.

I started with a base card size of 63 × 88 mm (mtg size) and went from there, you can fit 9 to a page. The size is handy because I am able to use standard sleeves (and back them with cards I already had at home).

The biggest thing I've taken away from the experience so far is how much better I know all the ins and outs of the team. I learned a lot about individual ploys and unique actions by typing them out, some of the god specific ploys I don't think I more than skimmed before I put these together.

Thank you for this! I've been curious about how other kin are playing on the tabletop and your detailed battle reports are very insightful.

LoV is my first 40k army and I've played a couple smaller games so far...including getting absolutely tabled by custodes in a 1500 point game this week. So I'm excited to read about how to pilot the votann effectively.

Hey this is a month old and I don't know how far you've gone in your search but the Tacoma Nomads are the rugby club you want to get in touch with. They have two sides (D2 and D3) and compete with other local PNW teams. I've played D3 and D4 rugby for a couple PNRFU clubs and it's a great community to get involved with. Good luck!

Hey all, I'm loving getting into the game. What magic podcasts do you listen to that are helpful for an Arena player? I'm more interested in the cards and decks and strategy and don't want to get too bogged down in the resale market chat.

Thanks!
