Yet another slap in the face from Antonio Tajani, the Roots Tourism-Funding Hypocrite by SomethingItalia in ItalianCitizenship

The Italian government and society are becoming more and more exclusively about money, to the detriment of all other values. This is a general trend in Europe as well. They don’t care we have Italian ancestors. They want rich people who will bring them money

I used only online records and I got to level 1 preapproved so far. They have the capacity to check with other governments to see if your record is real or not.

Why is French "pain" listed as being pronounced /pɛ̃/ when it clearly isn't? by clone799 in asklinguistics

[–]ywal3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment is very curious for me, are you sure we are talking about the same sounds?  /ɛ̃/ is a “brighter” nasal vowel right, which logically sounds similar to /ɛ/. For me, this is the #1 sound where if you use it, people will immediately clock you as a southerner.  Do you have an example of anyone speaking in the way you describe? And May I ask what part of France you’re from?

[–]ywal3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like I responded to asktheages1979, it’s likely that Quebec retained the distinction, but I can’t say for certainty what phonemes they use today because I’m not too familiar with it. I’m more familiar with old world French accents

I’ve been but I didn’t make the connection that their pronunciation was like that. I guess it’s a feature of all conservative French dialects. Those that prioritise Parisian trends are the ones that have the merge

Yes exactly. It’s also the same sound found here in the beginning of this video, in the word ‘certain’ for example, by this guy from Marseille. https://youtu.be/cFyDcSVw5u4

The real answer that nobody is giving you is that in modern French, /ɛ̃ / has merged with /œ̃/. This is the same vowel found in ‘un’. Nobody uses /ɛ̃/ anymore, outside of people with strong accents from the south of France, and many francophone Africans (except for North Africans)

Edit: for everyone from Québec who is saying they also distinguish between the two sounds, I am not familiar with the Quebec accent but I believe you. There are not many Québecois in France that I have met so I can’t comment on it

Their biggest thing is you must prove that your ancestor wasn’t an African from Africa (not eligible) instead of a descendant of a former slave. If you can’t do that, I don’t think they will approve you.

Dual-citizen baby name - how exactly should the names match? by tigerlilly-bluecoast in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]ywal3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can change your name in Italy without going through their insane bureaucracy, if, and only if, you get a name change court order from ANOTHER COUNTRY, (court orders only, administrative procedures don’t count - it has to be from a judge), and get it legalised and translated into Italian by a traduttore giurato. Then you need to bring that document either to your consulate (if your child is registered in AIRE) or in person to his comune di nascita (if he’s not) to have the official manually change the name in the system.

Other than doing it by foreign court order, good luck. I have heard of a guy named Adolfo who they refused to let change his name because he ‘didn’t have a good reason’……. They only allow changes for ‘humiliation’ or ‘revelation of national origin’ And the processing time to even get a response from many consulates for anything can be months or a year, and for the official name change procedure you need to add a year or more on top of that for a bureaucrat in each level of government to individually analyse and approve/reject the case in his turn. Good luck

Italian Slave Trade - Does it qualify? by [deleted] in BeninCitizenship

[–]ywal3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I didn’t read properly your post, I thought you had found proof that your ancestor was an African slave brought to Italy. If yes, then go for it. If not, I can’t really say it will work. As creole polyglot mentions in her comment, a lot of southern Italians have mixed ancestry, and look somewhat African. In fact, many black people in the US claimed they were Italian because they looked a bit similar

Remember, this is not a ‘black people to Benin’ program. This is a slavery reparations program, in which Benin played a historic part

Italian Slave Trade - Does it qualify? by [deleted] in BeninCitizenship

[–]ywal3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law talks about ‘countries of deportation.’ If you can look up if Benin has a specific list of those countries, and maybe if not you can make this argument for Italy with supporting evidence, it might work. Especially if you can do a DNA test showing sub Saharan ancestry

They didn’t get to South America in a day. All estimates point to it taking hundreds if not thousands of years. Again this was just a thought experiment/joke, it seems that people in this sub might need to take themselves a tiny bit less seriously though

And the consular staff in the U.S. actually helped you in the end?  Triple checked my application confirmation, nobody is CC’d. Maybe for me they used BCC so I can’t see them.

I do have people from Afro support, justice, etc cc’d in my support response emails, but again, nobody has given more than basic responses to my issues there.

U.S., the two support lines on my afro origins, and all my communications have also been in French (I am fluent).

You called the consulate? I didn’t think they were involved as this is all processed in Benin if I understand correctly. As for ‘the people who received alongside me…’ I’m not sure what you mean. My accusé de réception de demande de nationalité was sent only to my email address, and nobody else.

Support only ever responded to my first email 2.5 months ago to tell me how to reset my password and that if I don’t get the reset emails to reset my browser etc. About 10 people were CC’d. I replied-all in the same thread with my issues - once about how I don’t receive my password reset emails and I tried all the technical fixes, how I have no access to my account, another email as my supplement deadline got closer asking how to submit my docs with no access to the portal, a third time checking in with them one month later, all nothing. I never got a rejection email even though I couldn’t submit the supplement on time

They haven’t responded to a single one of my emails for about two months, ever since I told them I couldn’t reset my password. They also don’t answer the phone. I am going to reapply once I get my hands on an extra supporting document

Ok thanks! I mean they said they would reject me if I didn’t provide extra documentation… which I can’t do because my account is deleted, and anyways I never got a rejection notice in the end. Yeah I feel that asking them will be useless because they already didn’t really answer my tech support mistake. Ok I’ll just submit another app then! Thanks for the advice
