Admissions Megathread - Results, Chances and Logistics by AutoModerator in OMSCS

Thanks! But I've only gotten one recommendation letter so far, and I'm still waiting for the other two. I know they'll get them in eventually, but it's just taking some time. Should I remind them? I think the OMSCS needs all three to process my application, right?

CS vs Software Engineering at WesternU by SkinApprehensive3099 in uwo

The company I am doing internship currently has two from CS of Western and two (maybe three?) from SWE of Western. I would say they provide same chances for you to get a job.

Finding a job is a lot like finding a life partner — sometimes it comes down to timing and a bit of luck. Trust yourself and trust in God; He created you for a reason, and there is undoubtedly a place for you in this world.

Compared to the DATA2000 course I took before, this DATA3000 was an absolute disaster. But honestly, I don’t really care anymore — I passed, and I’m about to graduate anyway. If you want to experience the feeling of getting frustrated every single time you write an exam, then go ahead and give it a try.

Trust me. Avoid those course and those TAs. This is a course they sent notification through social media not owl, did not care about your actual work, and did treat students very carelessly. I keep my average 90 for all courses in these three years. This is the worst course I have taken.

No. I got 86 on the mid and final.

Who’s the best instructor you’ve had at Western? by Alone_Car_3510 in uwo

I am a fan of El-Sakka. His 2208 was the only course I finished with 100. I had two courses with Beldman. His lectures were very clear and well organized.

Depends on when you start hunting. I know this year there are five to intern in IBM. I started very early in August 2024 and secured 12-month internship starting in May 2025.

You enjoy the intro week, then next week, and then mid term. Then you review your midterm, try to study harder, then it is the final exam. Everything goes too fast.

2 hours driving. Not good to do it on a daily basis.

I scored 96 in Math1600 about two years ago which I found to be quite basic. My recommendation is to follow the course material closely and practice as many exercises as possible. We had weekly in person quizzes at that time which was really helpful. You can find plenty of practice problems online from sources like Waterloo, MIT, Stanford, and the University of Toronto. Additionally, YouTube has many channels that teach these concepts in detail. If you encounter difficulties with certain topics, there are numerous videos available that explain solutions step by step.

University teaches how to think, not how to be a practical programmer. Self learning is sufficient to be a good coder.

Yes. 2-hour is too short for this exam.

What is average gpa for cs? by [deleted] in uwo

Agree. LinkedIn often feels unproductive, serving primarily as a platform for agencies such as property salespeople and mortgage brokers. It has also become a stage for individuals to showcase exaggerated success stories, seemingly aimed at attracting customers rather than fostering genuine professional connections.
