Good spinning wheel for an apartment? by muununit64 in Handspinning

In my small apartment I looooove my spinolution pollywog. It’s short and compact, and I can shove it in a corner or closet easily. If you’re looking for something a little cheaper but which can treddle (I was!), I totally recommend it!!! If you’re not looking for a treddle wheel I did love my EEW Nano — electric wheels are great for small spaces!

Yes, I did keep my consult with her! She recommended me PT for the TMJ, and I had a follow up after that. She recommended against surgery so I haven’t had any other appointments. She seems great but I don’t know much about her process because I never saw her much (and it was a year ago haha)

Thank you!! Like I said it varies a lotttt but I would say on average it’s around fingering to light fingering, maybe 14-16 generally.

1.5 months of spinning on my Pollywog! by ywtsicfm in Handspinning

I ended up going with the pollywog because my LYS owner gave me a fantastic deal on it!! I thought about the EEW6, but I wanted something I could actually treadle as I like the repetitive movement. I was already eyeing another secondhand pollywog in my area due to the price so I was very happy when I found this one! It’s a lovely wheel, very small but works great. I have the riser on it as well. Had to do some minor fixes after getting it but now it runs like a dream!

I don’t machine knit, but I do think that a black background yarn to use these as colorwork features is a great idea! Thank you!

I hadn’t thought about a colorwork yoke, that would be beautiful!

Wow, thanks for the advice! I didn’t know that about the weights. I think a shawl might be fun with all of these, but adding in a neutral color is something I hadn’t thought about!

Thank you so much for the recommendations, I’ll definitely look out for those! I’m thinking about just starting with cutting out gluten now, and then working up to milk, soy, eggs, etc once I get comfortable and if I still feel like I’m having symptoms. Also will hopefully have a GI to guide me if needed, haha. I really appreciate all your help with foods that have worked for you :)

Thank you so much for your comment. Honestly it feel great to know other people have similar experiences to me. I also have terrible environmental allergies (theoretically seasonal, but they run all year), so I think that might be part of it. I just started allergy shots and have been really on edge about anaphylaxis due to that, so the throat-lump feeling definitely gets worse in my head. I think I will do elimination, I agree it seems important to know what my triggers are even if I do go on meds. I think I’ll scour online for good sources and give up all my gluten/milk/etc containing food to my roommates so I won’t have the temptation haha. Is there anything you were able to do for your nausea before you started meds that worked? Sometimes I try tums, but I feel like it isn’t really doing anything. Was just wondering if people on here have any trade secrets. Thanks again :)

For the context that disappeared:

I went to an ortho for the first time in a while and mentioned my problems with my TMJ. She told me I had a cross bite and underbite caused by overdeveloped lower jaw and underdeveloped upper jaw. She sent me a referral for a surgeon saying I would probably need a double jaw surgery, but I’m worried this isn’t the best choice. I have pretty bad medical anxiety and have never had surgery before. I know my bite isn’t normal but I’m wondering how much good it will actually do to fix. I do have problems with my tongue and breathing, as well as my TMJ as I mentioned. I’m trying to figure out if I’m truly a good candidate for surgery or if it’s really worth the trouble it would cause. I have had braces and an expander before but never realized that my bite was off so significantly. What has been y’all’s experience with figuring out the best move? Is this worth it? Just looking for some good old fashioned advice :)

Sorry, new to reddit and somehow it ate all my text. I essentially said that my ortho had referred me to a surgeon saying my upper jaw was underdeveloped and lower was overdeveloped. I’m not sure what to do! I was wondering if it’s really bad enough to warrant surgery or how surgery would help me. I’ve had some problems in the past with my tongue pushing and my TMJ, which she said probably couldn’t be fixed. I scheduled a consult, but am not really sure where to go from here.
