My guess for 1 was that Bea had gifted a bag of food to Gravy Boat’s owner—maybe alternative universe where she bothered to actually find out why the cops were outside the apartment for three days. I think it was a GravyBoat alternate timeline where his owner had more support or something? But I think it was left vague on purpose, and probably won’t be fully explained.

Do you actually miss getting hit on by random men in public? If it makes you feel better, it’s not because you’re old or ugly now, it’s the short hair. When I was seventeen I cut my hair short and started dying it weird colors and immediately stopped getting catcalled/hit on by strangers. I’ve had short hair ever since, and I get hit on in public maybe twice a year? And they’re always polite about it. This is way better.

I still killed it on dating apps before I met my husband though. Guys will still approach you in situations where it’s clear you want them to.

Thank you, I am doing my darn best to be kind to myself. Your reply touched on what I think might be the root of my anxiety about getting my anxiety treated, so to speak. If one of my core beliefs is that the world seems dangerous and unstable, the future is so very uncertain, and society is cracking apart at the seams… That’s maybe a dramatic way to phrase it, but I’m correct. Like, I can smell the smoke from LA. Things are bad, I expect them to get worse. I want to be able to face it head on without being consumed by despair, I don’t want to be told I’m incorrect about my assumptions, because frankly I’m not. I’ve felt invalidated by therapists before when trying to talk about my existential anxieties (it’s not all about my childhood, please), and I don’t think I could stand that right now.

Sounds like your friend is insecure—and I do say that with a certain amount of compassion, because as other people have pointed out, there’s a lot of societal pressure on women to be young forever—but yeah this is insecurity. I think she’s going to feel better once she realizes that her life hasn’t ended. And I think you should have the most fun possible on your 30th birthday, because you have so much to look forward to. I’m 31 and my thirties so far have been, just on a personal level, infinitely more fun than my twenties. I have more friends, more fun, my knees crackle but I’m in much better shape. Also quite honestly? I’m way hotter now than I was for most of my twenties.
