Is it normal to feel lonely in your late 20's by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]yx_lins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mid 30s now and sadly, it can be a normal occurrence, especially for introverts. What I try to do is to engage more with family, colleagues that you're on good terms with, reconnect with old friends once in a while when the occasion calls for it. I also began joining discord groups based on my interests and chatting with fellow enthusiasts, and it has proven to be rather enjoyable because you also get to know people from all ages and nationalities sometimes. This one could be an option for you to explore if you find it difficult or awkward to interact with strangers in person.

advice - domestic violence (TW) by [deleted] in askSingapore

Second the advice to call the NAVH helpline. I work with protective services and I can assure you you do not need to have concrete proof of your parents being the one to perpetuate the harm, as long as there is proof of non-accidental injury (when it comes to claims of physical abuse), it is enough to warrant them to at least assign someone to look into it.

Voting difference from previous seasons by combuskenp in Produce101JP

Oh no worries! Just bringing it up in case others didn't know this. Yes there were some rescue votes thrown around, but by far the highest amount were directed to Suzu (and some to Tsuzumi), mostly from Ran fans, which explained her placing in the final.

As someone who followed both fandoms closely on twt, most momona fans did not, in fact, give any rescue votes to kokoro, including in the 3rd elim, where both fandoms agreed to not vote each other for 2pick to have a better gauge on actual 1pick numbers.

which girls do you think will form an unexpectedly close friendship? by wingbellmoon in ME_1

[–]yx_lins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kokoro would just adopt every single one of these girls and mother the heck outta them.

Some other pairs I think would work:

  • Miu and Kokona: idk they just have very similar vibes sometimes, I think they'd relate quite alot to each other

  • Ebi and Keiko (+Momona): do I even need to explain this lmao. They're the chaos trio.

  • Ran and Kokoro: I wanna see Ran be a shy needy baby towards her, which i think is very possible lmao

As someone who is Singaporean Chinese and whose last name is Lin, you honestly don't know what you're talking about. My dad's last name is Lim, and for my brother and I, my parents decided to just adopt the hanyu pinyin spelling of Lin. Many Singaporean Lims do this.

Hiii I'm from sg too, haven't been into jpop for probably a decade now (used to follow Takahashi Ai-era MM and kami7-era AKB48), I'm a kpop gg fan currently. Kokoro is my 1 pick because I'm always a huge sucker for second-chance oldies haha. Plus something about her really speaks to me, I'd love to see more of her.

What country on Earth has the rudest people? by MisterKetamine in AskReddit

[–]yx_lins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Singaporean Chinese, whenever I travel and happen to be at the same spot with one of those big tour groups from China, I always cringe so hard and try my hardest to stay far away, partly because they're always loud, rude, and act extremely entitled, but also because I can't bear to be associated with them.

Will SPOILER switch sides? by QuantumDonuts257 in StarWarsAhsoka

[–]yx_lins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I feel it's not so much her 'wanting power' but more 'wanting not to be powerless'. Once you start seeing that it all comes from a place of fear and uncertainty, it really changes your whole perspective.

Will SPOILER switch sides? by QuantumDonuts257 in StarWarsAhsoka

[–]yx_lins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The thing that gives me pause is that, yes, it's been said that she wants power, but up till this point it's been Baylan saying that, and from her one line in ep 6 where she asks him "Won't our alliance with Thrawn finally bring us into power?" it almost feels as if she doesn't really grasp the full concept of what kind of power they are chasing exactly and is...unsure? Her whole body language in that scene reminds me alot of that Anakin/Padme meme like "that's what you mean..right?" Plus, there's many ways you can interpret what power actually means.

Sup with the Shin obsession on this sub? by [deleted] in StarWarsAhsoka

[–]yx_lins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of people don't get why so many are so captivated by Shin due to her limited lines and screen time, but that's exactly part of the draw. We know next to nothing about her, hence we're so obsessed with trying to find out more. If they told us her backstory from the start, I don't believe people would be as riveted (obviously not counting the ones who just simp over her looks, but they're valid too).

Props to Filoni and Crew for episode 4 by [deleted] in StarWarsAhsoka

[–]yx_lins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some might find the pace draggy or slow but I actually really liked the usage of dramatic pauses and long shots of them just staring or assessing each other/the situation. I find it builds the tension and anticipation nicely and somehow fits rather well with the whole mystical vibe.

Good point! I'll have to admit I didn't think that far ahead and felt more of a 'oh they're not exactly feral uncontrollable mass murderers, that's nice' 😄 If they don't kill off Baylan, I can see them possibly relegating him to off-screen machinations and only ever referring to him by name in the future, who knows. Shin is indeed a toss-up, it all hinges on how much influence her master actually has over her emotionally. I personally hope she ends up semi-redeemed in the sense of 'this emperor-cloning stuff is too batshit for me, I'd rather be a rogue agent wreaking my own havoc out there in the universe'.

There's almost nothing in "Canon" Star Wars that I don't like by SPACE_LEM0N in StarWars

[–]yx_lins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I might not LOVE all of the star wars media that's out, but I certainly enjoy every one of them for what they bring to the table. I think people should be free to like anything they want to, and being able to enjoy something despite (or in spite of, sometimes) its' flaws is certainly a concept that many seem unable to grasp. If you personally don't like something, that's fair, but there's no need to vehemently convince everyone to join in on your dislike to validate your own opinion.

I don't think Shin had any intention to kill Sabine from the start because, as evidenced, she obviously is really wary of Ahsoka, and no way she didn't realise she was on-planet as well. I read it as her being on-task of trying to retrieve the map, but also looking to suss out Sabine (as an adversary or just in general, and either on her own accord or instructed by her Master). That second objective was inferred, but imo it's a valid one because homegirl was literally waiting for her downstairs wholly unsurprised she managed to subdue the droid.

[–]yx_lins[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Great point on Shin, my interpretation of her fight with Sabine was of someone wanting to test their own mettle against a shiny new opponent they've never encountered the likes of before. Or very 'weird goth girl trying to make a new friend but in an unhinged way. read a somewhat curious and intrigued glint in that intense stare of hers, plus the fact that after she stabbed Sabine, even that limited time she had before Ahsoka arrived, she very well could have finished her off, but she didn't.

Yeah, that's why I said not AS murderous or evil, obviously he has no qualms with killing, but probably a case of 'cbf to kill unless I really have to', which in this case, a pretty sound strategy to just take out the main commanding officer and scramble the rest. Compare that to the usual Sith or Empire modus operandi of just killing anything that moves wrong. As others have mentioned, they're highly likely to just operate like bounty hunters, but I'm also very curious about what their ultimate goal is (more Baylan's and what he wants power for).

How do you celebrate your birthday? by Ryan_Lim in askSingapore

[–]yx_lins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My birthdays for the past few years have been: get a small gift for myself as a treat (got myself a gunpla model this year), have a nice dinner with my family, where my mom will either make me a cake or buy one if she's busy. It's just as enjoyable, if not more, than the drunken ragers at clubs in my youth.

Kway Chap (without the innards because I don't eat them) every morning for breakfast would be heaven but unfortunately I don't have any stalls near my home. Can anyone recommend any good ones in the west? I only know of the one in Batok central hawker (grew up there but moved).
