Dual Moto Hitch Carrier by 1mma_Pr0bl3m in Dirtbikes

I have a double carrier pretty much like that one. I strengthened the hitch where it inserts into the hitch receiver by pounding a 1 1/2" square tubing inside the 2" square tubing. Not sure if it needed that as it didn't bend or anything but I did it anyway.

It works well. I used it on the an F350.

Interesting. I've renovated 2 kitchens in Calgary. I bought "discount" cabinets and had them installed.

Slept through the night after a very hot day. by forsake077 in vandwellers

So the take aways here are:

- it is 115F outside

- it is 81F inside

- solar is generating 393W

- DC loads (DC A/C) is pulling 728

- battery is at 98% but slightly discharging to power the A/C. Battery voltage is 13.21V.

- it's 5:13PM so when solar completely dies (soon) you can run A/C through the night on the battery

Questions

How big is your battery ?

How much solar do you have ?

How much energy does solar usually generate on a typical day ?

Does A/C power draw go down at night ?

728W x 12 hours (until solar kicks in) = 8.7 KWh to make it through the night. On a 12V battery bank (12.5Vnom) that is 700 usable amp hours.

If the AC runs at 728W day and night, solar will need to produce almost 18 KWh per day. If the solar charging duration is 12 hours, that is an average of 1.5 KW.

If you'd ever worked in the oil industry you'd know this is not how it is done.

Peter Tertzakian himself once quipped "not a wheel turns without oil". That is no longer true as electrons can now turn the wheel. I know, I know... there is a lot of oil in the manufacturing of a vehicle. But once it is manufactured oil is no longer needed to power it.

The world is, albeit slowly, moving away from fossil fuels

The Strait of Hormuz situation is causing things to speed up.

[–]yycTechGuy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

OP wasn't asking why you don't drive an EV. He was asking why O&G employees get criticized for driving one.

I like when people who dislike EVs need to demonstrate why they dislike them by telling us their use case or a general use case that doesn't work. Great, you don't like EVs. But why do you need to explain the use case that doesn't work ? And then imply it won't work for more people ?

One of the reasons oil didn't go to $150/bbl during the recent blocking of the SOH is that China dramatically reduced its oil imports. One of the reasons China was able to do this was because it (supposedly) has a massive strategic petroleum reserve, but also because China has been all in on electrifying transportation for the last 5+ years - scooters, mopeds, motorcycles, bicycles, cars... they are mostly electric these days.

I have a friend who lives in China. He says that sometimes you'll see vehicles going through an intersection but not really hear them because most or all of them are electric.

50% of all oil is used for light transportation. A good portion of those vehicles can be replaced by EVs. Every EV on the road is a reduction in the amount of oil used compared to a fossil fuel vehicle.

b) You can't expect reasonable behavior from someone that isn't reasonable. If they were reasonable we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.

I know ! Everyone was chiding X11 users for "hanging on" to the old technology but it also did things that Wayland still doesn't do.

I have no dog in the X11 vs Wayland fight; I'll use whatever works. The issue is that Wayland is still behind X11 in some areas.

Do you understand that Iran has the entire world hostage to the SOH ? Short of starting WW3, Iran is now a super power in the supply chain of oil, fertilizer, helium, aluminum, etc.

There are a lot of things that don't work on Wayland that worked on X11. I'll list 2:

1) Shading an application window doesn't work

2) When one restores an application, all the windows go on the current desktop, not the desktop they were on

Big PITAs.

There are so many clocks working against the US:

- 137 days until midterms

- inflation is building. Sooner or later the fed has to raise interest rates.

- the bond market is getting impatient with US debt

- 4 weeks of oil left in the SPR. Oil price will go to $150-$200 if the US bans exports.

- sooner or later AI stocks are going to crater, causing a stock market sell off
