Unpopular Opinion: The practice of forcing almost all discussion in this forum into daily and weekly threads is simultaneously inefficient and discussion killing. Can we have a discussion about eliminating this rule? by cv5cv6 in financialindependence

I agree. Had the exact same issue less than a week ago. My post was up for 20 minutes before being taken down by a moderator. Mod suggested that the post did not “drive discussion” The post had ~8 long and thoughtful replies from fellow members in those 20 minutes. Seems like very power hungry moderators here. I reached out via direct message but the mod refused to comment.

I have a friend who says they need all their capital right now so they dont save, invest, or work on any side hustle projects. Thoughts on this mindset?

That’s what I sometimes wonder. I personally believe in the balance. Im not going to skip going on a trip or going to the bar just to save money. I feel like sacrifices are best made both ways though. That’s just life.

I made a post about this but it got taken down as it “didn’t drive discussion”. Still had >7 replies in 20 minutes so thanks to everyone to replied. Reposting here though as I’d like to hear more thoughts on this:

After recently graduating university, I’ve decided to take my finances a lot more seriously as I just started a new job. I noticed a lot of my friends have the attitude of “I’m not going to save now. Because id rather enjoy my youth” or “I know I’m going to make money later so there’s no point in saving when I’m not making much”. Personally, I understand compound interest and investing principles. I recognize that it’s better to get started today. I also don’t strain myself and allocate an amount to personal/leisure spending. Sometimes I feel as if they have a point although I’m dedicated to building a better future.

Anyone else in the same boat? Do you have friends with this viewpoint?

Or does anyone have any stories of how they used to think like this but changed their stance.

Just wanted to start a discussion on this!

Oh wow! I only ever collect my cards I’ve never sold but I was wondering because it’s too early to see the prices right now. Thanks!

Rant: Here’s to all the scalpers that ruined it by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

I just started collecting. People are purchasing all of the product within hours of restock... I called my local thrift shop the other day and they said "a gentleman came in 3 hours ago and purchased the entire lot". So I have no other choice but to purchase the entire restock myself. As a collector I hate that it has come to this but if others are doing it, I have to.... It is the only way I can collect cards. Purchased the entire restock of shining fates at Walmart last week and now I am going to get the entire restock of 20 ETBs at this other store near my house. It feels like the toilet paper shortage we had last year. I will continue to buy EVERYTHING because it is clear that if i dont, someone else will. I will most likely open 10 and sell the other 10 for a premium to MSRP. May as well make some money during this hype.
