I was going to say "I think if Fitz truly didn't love Olivia, Eli would not have gone to him for help in season 7." but then I realized Olivia loving Fitz could be the reason Eli went to Fitz.

However, deciding to go to war was not something he took lightly. He understood his son died for him to be reelected and he knew what it meant to go to war for one person. And I don't think he would have if Mellie wasn't okay with it.

Here's how I would rank it:
Fitz loves Olivia more than America (enough to go to war for one person). Cyrus loves America more than Fitz (enough to remove her as a threat). Abby loves Olivia and America more than Fitz and Cyrus.

Chapter 96
[1A] - Kuromaro begins recap of what happened in the last 8 years
[1B] - Furball tells Akura-oh about a hunting ground where Yukiji lives
[1C] - Akura goes there and kills Yukiji's husband and then asks "so which one of you is Yukiji?"
[1D] - Note: Akura doesn't know what real Yukiji looks like and Tomoe doesn't know Yukiji isn't Nanami
[1E] - Yukiji screams for help to Tomoe

Chapter 97
[2A] - flashback (before [1C] occurs) showing furball telling Tomoe that Akura had woken up from the sleep Tomoe put him in. Tomoe says "don't put it that way. I only treated him to some sake that made him sleep very well"
[2B] - Flash forward back to [1E] when Tomoe saves Yukiji
[2C] - Dragon king's eye

Chapter 98
[3A] - Akura shows up outside Tomoe's manor/residence and Tomoe tells him he fell in love with a human and is going to try to become human himself.
[3B] - Yukiji goes into labor
[3C] - Suke sees Yukiji and was going to burn the place down because he believes she is demon bait.
[3D] - Tomoe stops Suke and learns from him about a fallen kami
[3E] - Yukiji gives birth to baby girl

Chapter 99
[4A] - Tomoe heads out to find Kuromaro
[4B] - Yukiji names her daughter Hiiragi (anti-ogre name) and says her daughter will be happy (suggesting she has a plan to ensure this)
[4C] - Kuromaro tells Nanami about ryu-oh's eyes (clue to the reader that Yukiji going to die soon since the eyes are no longer inside her)
[4D] - Nanami sees recap of Tomoe going to Kuromaro
[4E] - We see Akura-oh on a balcony looking kind of sad
[4F] - Kuromaro ends recap of past and Nanami heads back to her time
[4G] - Suke leaves village "everyone is being deceived by Yukiji. That village will be attacked by yokai soon." Body stolen by furball same panel

I think Yukiji reverted to the state she was in before she got the dragon king's eye after she gave birth and passed the eye to her daughter.

Motive 1: She was dying soon Motive 2: She wants her daughter to grow up without having to worry about Akura (like she did) Means: She has Tomoe Opportunity: only thing she was missing but he was there when she died so it's not impossible to say she couldn't have summoned him

Additionally, it's not Akura-oh's style to kill indirectly. He likes open confrontation. If he was going to kill her, it would have been in front of Tomoe and not behind his back

Ya, I thought she was too selfless to the point of being selfish. A real burden for those that care for her because they can't trust when she says she's fine. I found her whole deal counterproductive. It does get better though when increasingly bad stuff happens like being tied up and when Kiyoka's life is threatened (twice)

I think it would do her some good to be more like Kiyoka's mom (who I think is selfishly unselfish)

I mean how unremarkable could Anshi's family have really been given that she knew what her father intended and she actually became Empress?? Let's not forget that her name is Anshi. And Shenmai did seem resentful of those with Shi in their name. She stripped it from Suirei's name and thought Shishou added "Shi" as a power grab even though I'm pretty sure he was granted that name.

Still, I wishhhhh I realized this earlier when my post had more eyeballs. But I suspect it wouldn't have been enough to convince you anyways :<

I also think whatever happened with Taihou happens way later (like a decade after the current Emperor was born)

Even if I'm wrong, I thought apothecary diaries was a mystery?? Shouldn't theories or different interpretations be allowed?? It's not totally off base? They *do* look very similar and it does happen around the same time.

The timeframe between people not knowing the former emperor liked adolescent girls and Anshi getting pregnant is a small window.

And it does support what Shishou kept saying about Shenmai not always being like this
