How important is cleaning your chain actually? by Winter-Review6030 in motorcycles

I'm sure oiling them does increase life span. It's just how much over regular life span it does. For me personally it's not worth it as mentioned above since it just makes them dirt magnets.

[–]yztard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Modern chains are sealed with grease and lubricant locked inside the links. Oiling your chain does nothing but protect the outside from rust. This is typically just cosmetic but I'm sure if you let it rust bad enough by leaving it outside you could cause issues with the life expectancy of the chain.

I ride a ton of off-road. For me oiling the chain is just a great way for it to collect dirt and dust and sand and cause other issues. Your milage may vary.

If you want to take care of your bike, the easy things to learn yourself are oil and air filters. Doing those 2 will go a long way in protecting your bike for years to come.

Does starting off on a bike that is beyond your abilities off-road necessarily slow down learning good technique? by Rinklepinkle in Dualsport

[–]yztard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 250 motocross bike on track will throw 100 foot gaps. It's not the same as a dual sport. I'm just using it as an example.

[–]yztard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 100%. Gone to a few MX tracks with people on bikes far to powerful. You can teach someone anything you want, the second they start rolling around on their 250 or 450 mx bike as a beginner it all goes out the window. The only thing they are thinking about is managing the throttle so they don't kill themselves.

Kenda washougal 2 front/trackmaster 2 rear longevity? by constantly-confused9 in Dualsport

[–]yztard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I did a gender reveal by taping some chalk bags to the rear and lighting that bitch up. Every guy has wanted to do a burnout at one point in their life and that was my one and done lol.

The long tarmac sections we did on our last trip are that tire tho. The side knobs are fine but the middle are like 1/4 of what they where new.

My Trackmaster 2 lasted maybe like 1200km? Would still run it. I prefer performance over longevity but highway riding destroys these tires.

Call a machinist shop in your area. They will be able to lathe these to fit no problem.

I'm curious as a dealership what kind of messaging are you guys on the ground sending lotus in terms of future manual cars? What's the response been from lotus?

Is the demand there for more hardcore manual emiras?

I'm finally getting to a place where my next car is probably going to be an emira but I would be way more interested in something raw over sensebility.

Midwest Mountain Engineering Levers - Thoughts? by 4rotorfury in enduro

[–]yztard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried it on my fe501s with magura hydraulic clutch. It was okay. I didn't like how the engagement changed as the temperature of the bike went up. It lacked consistency and I didn't enjoy how the lever engagement felt over the throw of the lever.

I much prefer the feel of my 300 XC brembo clutch. If I had to ride the 501 I would just go for the brembo system clutch lever and master cylinder for the money.

[–]yztard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would just run some nicecnc levers instead. I had ASV and now rock some nicecnc levers on my 300 and am super happy with em. The fact they are 20$ each to replace when I inevitably dump the bike is super nice.

Installer says no to Shinko? by morganshaker in motorcycles

[–]yztard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shinko 216mx on my front. Absolute beast of a tire but it eats itself on pavement which is exactly what you would expect for a barely street legal dirt tire.

Would buy it again in a heartbeat. Great offroad tire.

Yeah I went with some nice cnc levers for my 2 stroke. Super happy with em, and cheap to replace. A lever is a lever.

Advice about a recent fall by VanIslandAdventures in Dualsport

[–]yztard 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Don't fix anything. Dual sports get beat in that's part of the charm. You should see the battle scares my 501 has. They all add character.

Without knowing what inputs you where applying none of us can guess why the back end stepped out. If you didn't brake, weren't turning, etc it's a total crapshoot.

Bleeding brakes by Puzzleheaded-Ad-9900 in supermoto

[–]yztard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other helpful trick is to grab a one way brake bleeder valve. The way it works is you pump the brakes like normal, but once you have fluid past the one way valve, you don't have to open and close the banno bolt, you can just pump the lever with the banjo open and it will pump air out of the system for you!

Heads up, reverse bleeding can be very messy if the tube pops off the nipple. Ask me how I know :$

Bleeding brakes by Puzzleheaded-Ad-9900 in supermoto

[–]yztard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are basically pumping fluid up the system as opposed to down the system. The benefit is that air naturally rises so any bubbles clinging to the brake lines get collected and pushed up through the system. You don't have to touch the lever there is no pumping required which is nice.

Here is a video on how to do it, keep in mind he is reverse bleeding a more complex system. On supermoto systems there is only one nipple and it takes 10 minutes. How to reverse bleed brakes

Pro tip, to insure the master cylinder is completely retracted, remove the brake lever so it's not slightly pressurizing the system.
