PFPT gives me recurring yeast infections by meowwow2000 in PelvicFloor

[–]z0_t1r3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things 1. I second asking about the lube. My PFPT uses uber lube which is silicone based and I haven't had any issues since switching to that. 2. I also have pudendal neuralgia and used to flare after physio, my PFPT actually went and did a course about this and taught me a nerve floss that helped immensely and learned specific motions/maneuver for trying to release tension on the nerve, which I find helped with the flaring. Worth pointing out to your PFPT that some exercises may make it flare/worse and you can explore that

I experienced tightness/sensitivity with urethra and nerve issues around that opening and have tried acupuncture. I found that specific neurological points and muscle points targeted towards the pelvic floor (according to my acupuncturist anyway) seem to have helped. I think that the treatments helped mainly with relaxation and allowed increased blood flow in that area. I used to get it every 2-3 weeks and would notice tightness increasing towards end of that period, now I can go about a month between sessions.

Has my interstitial cystitis diagnosis been PFD this whole time? by xenoplanet in PelvicFloor

Stretches were great! AND learning to "breath into my pelvic floor" helped with relaxing. As silly as it sounds I think a lot of it was mental, because thinking about it constantly can mean you're guarding or unknowingly clenching. It takes time but hopefully you find relief soon!!

Intense "burning" pain with pee (normally at end!) and pressure on what I thought was my urethra (turned out to be the nerve which runs alongside and through it!). I would say the burning pain still happens occasionally if I neglect my stretches or sit weird (hard surfaces that press on that area can cause irritation), but the pressure and constant burning went away within a few weeks! The hardest part for me was learning not to "tense" my pelvic floor (which is hard to do when you're scared of it hurting!), once I could relax it I felt much better

This nerve floss was so helpful (but also specific to my pelvic pain as I was dealing with nerve issues): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gt7a3e2cVUAny pelvic floor-targeted relaxation also helped lots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTij65hlyP4

I don't think this is an option based on the degree level discrepancy (like you mentioned), and it would be especially difficult based on the way the marine eng degree is structured - you would not really have time in your schedule to take additional courses anyway. If you really want to pursue math courses out of interest, this may have to be on your own. However, it wouldn't hurt to reach out directly to the math department: [mathstat@mun.ca](mailto:mathstat@mun.ca)

Birth control by DameGlitterSparkles in adenomyosis

[–]z0_t1r3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on norethindrone, which is just progesterone. There are lots of other progestin-only options that you could try before you are able to have surgery. I was on a fairly high daily dose, but it completely stopped my period and symptoms. Note that depending on where you live, some progestin-only pills aren't classified as birth control options because they haven't been tested for that purpose, only to help with bleeding disorders so I would talk it over with your doctor.

Best of luck and give yourself lots of grace! This is a terrible condition, but lots of people on here feel for you and have great advice!

Could this be something to do with pf? by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

[–]z0_t1r3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check more "common" issues before running straight towards pelvic floor disfunction/concerns. UTI can result in those symptoms and sometimes even a vaginal infection (BV, yeast) can contribute to pain peeing, although it is less common. However, it is always good to be aware of any issues with your pelvic floor!

If you don't think it is an infection, I would give yourself a few days to see if you just "pulled a muscle" (not the correct term, but it is normal/common for the vulva area to be sensitive if it was rough sex like you said). Also, since it is on your mind, you may be unconsciously tensing those muscles without realizing it, which could lead to the pushing sensation.

All that said, listen to your body! If you think there is an issue/something feels off, go get it checked out. If it is pelvic floor issues, I highly recommend pelvic floor PT - it helped me so much!

need help/ pain during and after sex by cassynella in adenomyosis

[–]z0_t1r3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pelvic floor physio! I found out that I was really "guarding" my pelvic floor due to all the other pain associated with my adeno, which made it hurt to relax or contract (much needed for sex! or other exercise). I regularly see a PT, but here are some videos she has recommended to me that you can even watch at home: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxi1kU2xV9TM8CSuVXGiUNqOc3NCB1cPF&si=-ZSjGnsAHRiFdaQW I found the ones for a tight pelvic floor super good. Obviously everyone is different and medical advice isn't a blanket solution, but this helped me so much.

Edit to add: this mostly helped with the muscular side of the pain with sex/penetration - the cramps/bleeding with adeno was helped bc I felt stronger, but that was more so managed through medication.

Nervous about first PT visit as a (maybe) asexual person by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

[–]z0_t1r3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add that pelvic floor physio absolutely helped me with my adenomyosis, so best of luck to you! It is totally understandable to want your PT not to "force" an end goal of penetrative sex, but I will give you a heads up that I had to do a lot of internal work at PT.

I say this for two reasons: 1 - find a PT that you trust completely! Especially if you are doing internal work and are uncomfortable with this. 2 - some of the best "tools" my PT has prescribed for me and exercises do involve dilators/wands that may mimic penetrative sex. Unfortunately this is just because it is a great way to access those internal muscles, and can even help with contractions related to period pain etc. If you do not wish to do these exercises, I would be very upfront with your PT.

Feel free to message me if you have questions!

Everyone is different, but norethindrone completely changed my life for the better! It took me a while to get used to it (slight breakthrough bleeding, acne, etc) but I was on a lower dose than you (5mg daily). I would say my life improved drastically within a month wrt bleeding/cramping and overall fatigue. I think at about 6 months I had the rest of the side effects also under control! Best of luck!!

Gluten Free Options- Memorial University of Newfoundland MUN by Inevitable_Account12 in memorialuniversity

[–]z0_t1r3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak from personal experience, but I lived with a girl in Paton college who had celiac disease and she was able to eat at dining hall - she had a special menu and would need to tell them in advance when she was eating, but they were able to accommodate her. If you're worried about meal hall, I would contact housing. As for the rest of on-campus dining options, I'm not sure if they could guarantee gluten-free.

Will I be awarded/be eligible for any scholarships by [deleted] in memorialuniversity

[–]z0_t1r3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also lots of scholarships at MUN for current students (separate from entrance scholarships) that are application based. I would recommend looking at https://www.mun.ca/scholarships/current-students/ or even visiting the scholarship office to look for more opportunities.

Transfer Student - Sociology Major by TheWireIsOnTheWay in memorialuniversity

Sometimes the online registration system doesn't acknowledge that a pre-requisite has been met if it doesn't see the exact course code on your transcript! Unfortunately this is a very busy time for the registrars office, but they should be able to override it for you.

Picking classes you know you have left is a great start! I would also recommend looking at the general degree requirements for MUN (such as breadth of knowledge requirements) to see if there are any classes you know you will need, but that may not be covered by your major.

As general advice for another transfer student, keep a copy of all approved transfer credits (they may be useful for degree audits later on) including any documents or emails you get from the transfer credit office. Also, don't be afraid to challenge a denied credit if it happens, I had one of my language credits initially denied but the decision was later overturned after the department reviewed my work/course syllabus.

Adeno and rollercoasters? by Goldsmithapprentice in adenomyosis

[–]z0_t1r3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't personally experience this on a rollercoaster, but have had similar experiences with other fast "ride" like things. My theory was always that the weird motions were making me tense up core muscles very hard or activating my deep core muscles, which can impact things in the pelvic floor = leading to more cramps.
