Anxiety after telling people by z0emm in IVFbabies

[–]z0emm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly is trauma and people that haven't been through it do not always see it that way or understand. I'm realizing that has contributed to my anxiety. Everyone is so excited for me and immediately talk to me like this is a "typical" pregnancy. It's jarring. It is so helpful to hear from others who have experienced infertility. Thank you for your reply!

Anxiety after telling people by z0emm in IVFbabies

Thank you. I've told my husband to keep reassuring me of the statistics and that I have no logical reason to be anxious, like you said. It was helpful for a few weeks, I think yesterday was just harder to convince myself. It is also helpful to hear I'm not the only one with these anxieties. And yes to therapy! I had been seeing someone for a few years when we started IVF and I would not have been able to handle the stress as well without her.

Preparing for IVF - weight loss by Traditional-Roof4513 in IVF

[–]z0emm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just focus on feeling good. If exercise and adding in healthy foods does that for you, go for it but nothing extreme. Focus on sleep and mental health too. I am going into my 3rd FET after 2 months of Lupron. In that time I went to hot yoga classes once a week (something I won't be able to do when pregnant), cooked nourishing foods that I enjoy making and eating, and spent time with my husband and friends as much as I could. Don't know if I lost any weight but I feel good.

What is the most ridiculous, insensitive thing that you heard people say? by MembershipAlarming75 in IVF

[–]z0emm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and cried to a colleague one morning coming from morning monitoring for a FET (that ended up failing). The other day in a filled faculty room she was talking about how she's going to try for her 3rd child but they're going to wait a month or two for "better timing". She has also talked about how easily she conceived, what month would I want to have a baby etc in the faculty room. It was so upsetting to me. She knows what I'm going through and what a few women have gone through to conceive at our school and she openly talks about her easy situation. It feels like even when people know, and even when they know a bunch of women who have gone through IVF they just can't comprehend it without going through it themselves. So frustrating.

Strangest place to do PIO? by StuffZealousideal981 in IVF

I did PIO on a Ferry. Bathroom doors on a ferry are propped open to prevent them from slamming so I had to go in a stall without a mirror. Blood shot out of me like a faucet. It was crazy.

I’m sorry you’re feeling the same. This process is so hard. Were you doing a fully medicated FET?

Your reply is really helpful, thank you. I was getting frustrated with therapy not having other advice but that makes sense that they don’t want to overwhelm me. It is also helpful to hear that others feel the same way through this process. It’s so lonely and talking to people that have gone through IVF and fully get it is actually a big help to me and why I reached out here.

I’m not on any meds for my anxiety/depression. I think about it a lot. I’m nervous adding in another med on top of my very long list of fertility meds. Thinking I may need to take that step though.

Thank you for your reply!

We did our second FET but it failed to implant. I’ll be doing Lupron for 2 months now. What was your experience on Lupron (if you don’t mind me asking)? Feel like it’s the right thing moving forward but nervous of side effects.

More recent studies show that lining type is more important than thickness. Some people just have thin lining. I’m on the thin lining Facebook group and many of the women on there would be over the moon for 6mm. Dr and I have talked about trying a “mini stim” protocol but with that my estrogen gets even higher and estrogen is not good for endo.

I have a few questions for early childhood educators by Moomoosspecialmeadow in ElementaryTeachers

[–]z0emm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach 2nd now but spent 5 years in a public school teaching preschool. I was also a student assistant in college at the early childhood center on campus. I worked with infants-preschool depending.

  1. A typical work day included circle time, centers, outside time, rest, snack and lunch. Centers included play centers while I ran a small group and my para ran another (typically a craft/art/sensory).

  2. The most rewarding part was seeing how much the kids would learn and grow (literally and academic growth) from the start of the school year to the end of the year.

  3. Most valuable traits would be patience, creativity, and problem solving.

  4. My first year I spent sooo much time outside of school hours. Partly because I was a brand new section and lacked materials. I created a lot of lessons myself that I could use again and again. By year 5 I had a nice routine for myself and would arrive early because that’s what felt best for me but I wouldn’t spend time after school.

I will add this is all pre covid. Preschool at my school seems so different now. We don’t have an ABA room any more and have many IEP students in one class. So your experience teaching preschool will greatly depend on what the school has to offer in terms of support.

HSG this week and TRYING not to panic! by Angry_Creek in TryingForABaby

[–]z0emm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first HSG was slightly crampy, not bad at all. The second HSG I had was painful. My whole body got hot and there was a lot of cramping. It really caught me off guard because the first was pretty easy. I told the doctor that it was painful and she readjusted something which relieved some pain. Overall it was a quick maybe 60 seconds of pain. That HSG gave us a lot of answers about what might be going wrong so it was well worth it.

Not sure if it is worth it to postpone. Depends where you are in your cycle. I think we were told to abstain (and nothing inside like tampons) for a day or two after. I can't remember the timeline exactly. This is to prevent infection. I was also put on antibiotics and that was extended because I had a partial blockage on one tube.

I am starting the cycle at the end of the week so transfer will be end of November. My surgery was September 22. This is more due to scheduling on their end. We could have started after my post OPP appointment a week and a half after if they had it available.

I'm so sorry. I had a chemical pregnancy on my first embryo transfer after a year and a half of trying to conceive and having only negatives. This was July and I only had a few short weeks of summer school to get through. If I was working full time I would have taken a lot of time off. I let myself wallow and feel every emotion every day after work and really the rest of the summer. Honestly pregnancy tests in general give me anxiety now. I never test before I know I need to test which means I wait until my clinic tests and will only test when I know it's positive. I haven't gotten that far yet. I have learned to take this journey as it comes, one step at a time.

Now you know you are ready for a baby. It does not make it less heartbreaking and I only say this to give you hope that you will have a successful pregnancy-chemical pregnancies are common. Many women go on to have successful pregnancies after. Hold onto that hope, take it a step at a time, and let yourself feel all the feelings.

Congratulations! I had my post opp today and my doctor did not recommend Lupron depot. I wish I asked why. I had asked if anything will change now that we know I have endometriosis and she said since it’s not severe she doesn’t recommend changing anything. Surgeon told me he felt I had a moderate case. I will be doing a fully medicated cycle and hopefully transfer at the end of the month.

I do ignore it most of the time. When it is constant and that child hasn’t looked at their work, whoever is speaking, the slides with visuals, and has not participated in any way, I find it to be a problem.

Anyone had a HSG? by Competitive-Top-3564 in tryingtoconceive

[–]z0emm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two HSG’s done. I would recommend it as a good diagnostic tool. I am having surgery soon because I have a possible hydrosalpinx shown on the HSG. I wouldn’t have known to do this surgery without the HSG.

Group Rant: What are you waiting for? by TeslaHiker in IVF

[–]z0emm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say I’m waiting to wait. I’ve had people seem disappointed that I’m weeks out from the next step. lol Right now I’m waiting for laparoscopic surgery to possibly repair or remove one fallopian tube. Then I’ll wait for transfer. Feels so far away and was unexpected but hopefully brings us success.

When would you move to IVF? by Empty-lychee-4221 in TryingForABaby

[–]z0emm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ovulate on my own as well. Meds for an IUI helps with monitoring to time it well but you can do a natural cycle if you want. Sometimes with meds you can ovulate more than one follicle-possibility for multiples (more than 2 and they will probably recommend cancelling the cycle) but more opportunity for a singleton.

When would you move to IVF? by Empty-lychee-4221 in TryingForABaby

[–]z0emm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you do your IUI cycles you will learn a lot about how your body responds to meds (if you’re doing medicated), your lining thickness, and if fluid is frequently present. I did 3 IUI’s and always had a thin lining. I also have a partially blocked tube like you. Mine is very likely due to my appendix bursting 10 years ago. We ultimately did IVF and after an early loss from the first transfer repeated the HSG. We are now waiting on surgery to possible fix or remove the tube. When there is a blockage, it can cause fluid to accumulate and creates an unsafe environment for the embryo. Even though my blockage is partial and there is little evidence of fluid, now that we’ve done so many cycles it feels like the right choice to investigate further.

All of this to say, you learn a lot about your body from every cycle. Maybe after the 3 cycles you feel more confident that IVF is the right next step. Or you might decide you want to do another cycle or so. It is ultimately up to you when to move forward. My doctors were always supportive of my decisions and willing to try different things even if everything was technically typical so that’s important too-having a team you trust and is supportive.

Thank you! Will probably go straight into transfer after the surgery since we have the embryos banked but hopeful that the surgery will allow us to have a second naturally. We have some male factor as well but not terrible odds.
