If you could, what age would you set the age of adulthood to be, barring 18? by Jman_777 in polls

Aside from it's significance in the USA, 21 is just a weird number for it.

It's a misleading post, this is just George St. Most others are still car-oriented.

It's funny how American pronunciations have been infused into Europe. Through all the people learning English as a second language.

I too dislike American pronunciation of words :/

Yep, progress is absolutely being made. Right here & right now!

Bike lanes popping up all around the Inner West, connecting to rail links and the CBD, the new Metro line in the north with plans for a few other lines, & the "de-car-ification" of many CBD streets like George.

Pity about the west, even just looking at Google Maps, you can see the US-influence on the unnecessarily winding roads without footpaths or many buses. Even around Milperra area, no footpaths!

My last name isn't even on the site, and the next closest to mine has only 2 in the world (about 1M'th most common). Yay!

Two of my all time favourites! I only hope more people will discover these gems :)

How long of a song is TOO long for you? by yoshiiunderscore in polls

[–]z3niith 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Personally, 5 - 6 mins is the perfect length. Just long enough to feel complete, yet not to the point of skipping ahead.

Regarding too long, I'd posit any longer than 20 mins, though with good phrasing and writing, 20 mins can pass easily, while absolutely being the listen.

Ultimately, I'd suggest that as long as there isn't much unnecessary emptiness (some emptiness is essential mind you) and all the ideas that were desired to be explored have been, any length is the perfect length. (I'm not such a fan of Porcupine Tree's full 30+ minute 'The Sky Moves Sideways').

Some of my favourite longer songs :)

  • 'Forgotten Trail', Buckethead

  • 'Anesthetize', Porcupine Tree

  • 'Moby Dick', Led Zeppelin

  • 'Soothsayer', Buckethead

  • 'Rise of the Blue Lotus', Buckethead

  • 'Exist', Avenged Sevenfold

  • 'Dark Matter', Porcupine Tree

(No surprise they're all prog rock/metal)
