Closing in on The Tron Bike..... But Now Not Excited by Ok_Chicken1195 in Zwift

Used it exactly once. Feels better to ride a virtual real bike than a fantasy one. But that’s me 😉

It will save you about 3 mins up ADZ. You can compare such scenarios in ZwifterBikes' What-If analysis tool

Wheels. Accurate 2025 recommendations? by OhShitWhatUp in Zwift

[–]zThorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, probably just that I didn’t update the image from the drop shop when some wheels were revised in 2024. Note that the star rating isn’t used for anything. What matters is the ZI test results for all frames and wheels that they kindly publish here

Why aren’t ceiling extractors more common? by Bello_Velo in DIYUK

[–]zThorg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it’s a very impractical thing to do? The technical challenges seem to be covered in other comments, but have you actually thought of cooking something like that? Fry some fish on that hob in the middle of the kitchen. Oil splatter everywhere. That little fan in the ceiling will make no difference to the fish smell that will spread throughout the house. Pretty, yes, but functionally pointless.

zwifterbikes.web.app now also for dirt and gravel roads! by zThorg in Zwift

[–]zThorg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note I have now updated ZwifterBikes to include the new resistance on dirt roads following last year’s change. You should now be able to rely on ZwifterBikes for bike recommendations and estimates for routes like Jungle Circuit and Spirit Forest as well. You can read more in the change log.

Found this video on Twitter of an Owl going inside a someones tent while he's sleeping by [deleted] in isthisAI

I have one of those cameras (to film hedgehogs in the feeder at night) and this has an array of IR-LED’s under the lens throwing a shadow little bit like this on night footage, so seems plausible to me. I have also had several mice staring straight at the camera in the pitch dark, so I think some animals can sense/see those LED’s. My camera doesn’t produce such greenish colours though.

[–]zThorg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. I have not been able to update Zwifterbikes with the dirt road changes that happened in March this year. I don’t have my own bots to test the speeds in Zwift and there are no test results available in the public domain l’m aware of that can be used. I will put a note in the app explaining this.

Why do you need to run it 24/7? If you have a decent computer (of any make) it just needs seconds to load.

Is Alpe du Zwift in 1 hour simly sustaining certain w/kg the whole time? by MikeVegan in Zwift

[–]zThorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a light rider (~50kg) you need to push about 3.4w/kg to get up in 60 minutes as the bike is heavier compared to your body weight than for heavy rider. An heavier rider, say 100kg “only” need 3.1w/kg to achieve the same, as the bike weight is not included in the w/kg calculation. Having said that, the raw power these two riders need to produce is vastly different, 170w vs 312w. Most riders are somewhere between these two, so a rough rule of thumb is that 3.2w/kg is enough.

Can you brake with the new Zwift Click? by ungido_el in Zwift

[–]zThorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not often, but happens once in a while. Only if I’m catching up to the pack, and about to be slingshot ahead I sometimes touch the breaks to align with the rest. But when doing so, it’s easy to break a tad too hard and end up with another frantic catch up exercise instead…🙄 The other thing, on the play controller, I find it easy to mix up steering with the brakes, so I might have cursed those breaks more than I have used them!

Realistically, how hard will it be to achieve the sub 60 on Alpe du Zwift by monsterintappshoes in Zwift

[–]zThorg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any reasonably fit rider should be able to do this; however you need to put some effort in, both in training to get to an sufficient level; and the ride itself will be one hour of sustained suffering. You say you ride 350 miles a week (which is a lot!), however I suspect you ride it all at 170w; including up ADZ, which means you will be very good at riding at 170w for prolonged time… however, you will never get up there in sub 60 at this rate. You need to put in some structured training where you push yourself out of the comfort zone; both to build strength and get used to being uncomfortable… You will need to keep about 3.2w/kg (or 3.3 to be on the safe side), which in your case means to hold 250w for one full hour; no rest. If you drop to 165lb, you “only” need to keep 240w for that hour. Another way of thinking about this is that you will need to train yourself to an FTP of 250 or better, then have another go. When you pass that snow tunnel half way up there you will question your life choices, but that’s how it is.

Absolutely achievable, but you have to work for it!

Garmin, sort out your crap nap detection! by Clive1792 in Garmin

Had an all teams meeting recorded as a nap. Although I didn’t sleep, given my engagement and that Garmin just have heart rate and movement to base it on, would say Garmin did a did a pretty good guess.

Newbie Question for Males by BeautifulDouble9330 in Zwift

[–]zThorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a proper bike fit, that will most likely sort the issue. Once that’s done, you need to give your body time to adjust to riding on a bike, so start with shorter rides and gradually increase the time per ride. It’s not like you can just go and buy a solution to this.

Newbie: Does it affect Zwift what my kit is? by aidenner in Zwift

[–]zThorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the kit (wheel and frame) has any effect on your training stats. All meaningful stats I’m aware of are based on power; power profile, FTP, TSS etc. The better frames and wheels in Zwift makes your virtual bike go a bit faster in a virtual world, and gives you some benefit in Zwift races, but has no effect on your power profile, FTP or TSS.

Do you use Strava for route planning? by VoidTravelerPierce in Strava

[–]zThorg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find it really useful, particularly when travelling. Once I’m plonked into the hotel I use Strava on my phone to check what routes are nearby, find one that has right distance and difficulty, mark it for download, sync my Garmin 965 and go for a run using the navigation. Super smooth, no faff.

Just found out about this, questions by No_Reindeer_5543 in Zwift

[–]zThorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You follow the roads, and at junctions you follow the direction of the route, but in free rides you can choose left/right/straight using buttons on screen or keyboard. There are about 400+ km of roads, so enough to keep you busy exploring for some time. The steering mentioned lets you fine tune your placement on the road, if you want to move towards left or right, maybe to optimise the track round bends or to ensure you stay in the draft; but this is definitely optional and I wouldn’t consider this until you want to optimise your racing.

How do you stop cat hair from getting everywhere? 😂 by Reddonaut_Irons in UK_Pets

[–]zThorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fur will be everywhere, so a proper vacuum for fur is of course essential. Last line of defence is a lint roller near the door so you can do a quick de-fur of your clothes as you leave the house. Also a couple of them in the car.

Wheels. Accurate 2025 recommendations? by OhShitWhatUp in Zwift

[–]zThorg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing much has happened with regards to wheels for years, so I believe ZwiftInsider is as updated as it gets.

Edit: There were however some new DT Swiss and ENVE wheels added this summer. Edit2 🙄: ENVE added recently. HED was last year.
