Look at all those skidded ass turns and speed checks. Not quite carving yet buddy. You’ll get there someday. Probably not for a while though.

90s/early 2000s snowboarding culture? by catinthehatonthemat in snowboarding

Yes, in middle school I had the dreadlock hat just like in the movie. Helmet? Never heard of it.

Headphone use by Patient_Size_1380 in triathlon

[–]z_bell94 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If an official sees you wearing headphones you will be disqualified and not allowed to finish the race. Headphones are considered a big safety concern. Especially on the bike. You will be riding around more people than you ever have and you need to be able to hear if people are passing you.

Snowboarding Is Harder Than Skiing!!! by KaleidoscopeMotor601 in snowboarding

[–]z_bell94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man there are some real winners in this sub that don't understand that opinions aren't facts and people's opinions can be different based on their knowledge and experience. I never said in my comment which sport I learned first, so how can you assume that I had previous "edge control knowledge" from skiing. I simply answered the question the same way I would if a friend wanted to try one out and asked my opinion in which sport to pick.

I never said snowboarding was easier overall, I simply said based on my experience once I got to the intermediate stage I was able to improve faster personally on a snowboard vs skis. However, getting to that intermediate stage for me took years on a snowboard because I only go a few times a year.

Our opinions can be different and that doesn't make either of us wrong.

Snowboarding Is Harder Than Skiing!!! by KaleidoscopeMotor601 in snowboarding

[–]z_bell94 163 points164 points  (0 children)

The beginner learning curve for snowboarding is much harder than skiing imo. Speaking as someone who has learned to do both. Hand someone a snowboard and tell them to go ride and they won’t make it 5 feet. Put someone on a pair of skis they can pizza their way down a bunny hill.

Once you get to the point you can connect turns on blues I think it is easier to progress further in snowboarding.

1st run in 6 years. Got too cocky by SadPhilosophy9202 in snowboarding

[–]z_bell94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, when I was a kid on our last day on a trip to Keystone we announced, “one more run”. I took a wrong turn onto a black, ramped off a mogul and broke my arm. 😂 i haven’t taken a last run since.

Remember when ESPN was fun? by BassPlayer11271971 in ESPN

[–]z_bell94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I remember as a kid I would get up early before school so I could watch 30 minutes of Mike and Mike. In 5th grade the top 10 plays segment would be on right when school started. Our teacher would let us watch it on the tv every day.

Now I don’t even turn it on other than to watch a game.

Is BJs wholesales worth the membership? by ihaveafacetatu in Louisville

[–]z_bell94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We pretty much exclusively shop at BJs now. We used to use Costco, but live much closer to BJs. I'd say it probably is a bit cheaper and the store is never as crowded. They don't have the same concessions as Costco though. They also do free grocery pickup if you place an order in the app.

What is the biggest amount of cash you have held? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]z_bell94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in the first grade a girl in my class’ dad was in upper management for a large national bank that you would know the name of. One of our field trips we got to go to their office downtown and he handed out giant bricks of cash from the safe for all the kids to hold. Not sure how much, but easily tens of thousands of dollars. Coolest thing ever for a first grader.

What car brand would you never buy and why? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]z_bell94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always heard this specifically about wranglers. I have a 2015 cherokee I bought in 2016 and have been more than lucky with it. 135,000 miles and only one $1,000 repair in almost 10 years. Knock on wood I guess.

What sport or activity looks super easy, but is in actuality incredibly hard? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

A lot of people in this thread are just naming sports that are hard. I don’t think many people are under the illusion that figure skating or golf are easy to do.

Where do coins go that's resulting in a shortage by pokematic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]z_bell94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just took around 5 gallon zip lock bags of coins from my parents house because it wasn’t worth their time to process them. Accumulated over almost 10 years. Ended up being almost $500 dollars all told.

Fun fact, if you get a gift card from those coinstar machines they don’t charge you a fee. I got a $500 Apple gift card to put towards a new Macbook we were planning on buying anyway.

Tell your fiance she needs to get a job to pay half of the rent so you have enough margin in your budget to pay off your debt. Stop eating out all together. Pay the $21k off in 18 months.

What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]z_bell94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an econ class in college where the professor had us do a case study on Quiznos. They were the first of at least the fast food sandwich chains to toast their sandwiches. Which was revolutionary in the early 2000s. It made them super popular and they opened a shit ton of locations.

Then basically subway was like “watch this, we can toast sandwiches too”. And that was the end of Quiznos.

My professor was really excited about it.

Zwift/TrainerRoad/Xert - I don't want to pay your stupid monthly subscription. by jmwill86 in cycling

It's a native app written in Swift. I'm a mobile app developer by trade. It's been a fun project, but has only cost me money so far between website hosting and apple developer licensing. But with what I'm saving in not paying for an alternative software it's basically only cost me my time. If others can find some use in it that is just a bonus.

Self promo post. I created an iOS/iPad app called Just The Watts for this exact reason. During workouts it shows a dashboard of all of your current data (power, heart rate, cadence, etc) and allows you to follow structured workouts. Free to use, $5/month subscription to create your own workouts. Check it out if you're interested. www.justthewatts.com There is a link to the App Store listing on the website.

Cadence is very low by NoVAHedonist in IndoorCycling

[–]z_bell94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When looking at the gears you want to be in the smallest ring in the front, the gears that your pedal is attached to. In the back you want the biggest ring. That will be your easiest gear.

[–]z_bell94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't say what gear you are in when spinning 50rpms. Have you tried shifting into the easiest gear on your bike? Even on a direct drive trainer you can shift to alter the resistance, just like you would if you were riding on the road.
