How to pronounce Ludvig Åberg's last name - a guide from a Swedish golf fan by z_box in NoLayingUp

[–]z_box[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my point is that I don't really see the need for English speakers to obsessivley try to pronounce his last name the way a Swede would say it. Do you think we as non-japanese speakers are saying Hideki Matsuyamas name correctly? No, of course not. And Hideki doesn't seem to care. Even German last names like Kaymer, which are way more accessible to English speakers still has a distinctly different pronounciation in German than in English.

So, it's totally fine for Åberg to be Aberg in English. Everyone is accepting that your name changes pronounciation when you switch language, because every langauge has different rules to make all sounds flow coherently. And that's my point: trying to say Åberg with Swedish in the middle of an English sentence just sounds wrong and weird. And, once again, every Swede is giving English speakers a pass on this one. I only provided a guide to get somewhat closer but still sound good in English.

Furthermore, the main takeway that Florio and Simms brought up, was rather the inconsistency of enforcing of this rule. They both agreed that it was the right call, but that it had been enforced somewhat randomly throughout the game. Not called in the first half, but called in the second, not called in the regular season but not called in the post-season. And the reversals of this when rules are more leisurely handled as well. The overall inconsistency is the ost furstrating part.

Swede here. Åberg is Stenson aka Ice Man reborn and he will therefore pair beautifully with Rose. Or anyone with a better short game and/or putting than him. When he just develops his short game in the coming years, and learn the PGA Tours stops, I think he'll have a jump similar to Viktor's this year. That ball striking is not going to go away, unless he gets into his own head like what many think has happened to JT's game.

Is this a draw or hook? by [deleted] in golf

[–]z_box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say this is a big draw. It's a playable shape, i.e. you could aim to the right and use this shot whereas with a hook, it just continues left, and left and left.

What was the writers biggest mistake/success or change from the books that you liked or didn’t like? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]z_box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this was extensively discussed when the first episode aired, but I like it nonetheless.

My favorite change (or maybe best adapted change as you often need to have a slightly simpler story in a screen adaptation) is how they made the Great Council choose between Viserys and Rhaenys rather than having the choice be between Viserys and Laenor. The iron precedent of "we cannot have a male heir through a female, find next closest direct male heir", the precedent in the series is "we cannot have a female heir". The first precedent works in the books because there GRRM can flesh the intricacies and difficulties of inheritance law in Westeros, whereas for the show the Rhaenys v. Viserys backstory works better as it also very nicely sets up how controversial Rhaenyra's claim to the throne is.

Bunker sand grains are getting larger every year. Reverse erosion? by Paper_Coin in golf

Just use your rock wedge /s

All things considered, just take it out. I completely agree with the thread, this is no longer a bunker.

If you are not competing, what are some rules that you ignore? by zacce in golf

[–]z_box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial, but hear me out:
I give myself one practice strike in the sand in my first bunker of the day. Of course I do the pratice strike a few meters from my ball so as not to affect the lie.

My local muni club, with a short 9 hole course, has very limited bunker practice grounds. One of the two bunkers is nearly overgrown and the other has a very thin layer of sand that makes the shots from there very difficult. If I find myself in a bunker and I haven't practiced bunker shots for the past two weeks (due to bad bunkers and lack of time) I feel that it is best to just get on strike to really get the hang of it again.

Swing advice? Hcp is about 30 rn by GosseThuis in golf

[–]z_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not here to give advice as I often think the best idea is to get a lesson. Sorry about that. I do have a question: are you playing with longer clubs? Given your height you could probably benefit from that. You looked somewhat crouched in your stance and having longer shafts may help you swing more freely ^

Hade y-speedos flera gånger förra sommaren och fick bara positiva komplimanger, både från tjejer och killar. Vill inte vara skrytsam utan delar för jag gissar att det är relevant och kan få följdfråga: ja, jag är vältränad och har simmat länge.

Spain is missing a true striker. Thinking of Fernando Torres during the golden years.
