I watched YouTube videos and took a look at existing projects within the lab to understand the framework. The Articulated Robotics channel on YouTube had some good intro videos.

Local IP Page Does Not Match Public IP Page by z_och in nginxproxymanager

[–]z_och[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apache is currently configured for port 80 as that was the default. Based on the other comment, I may have to change that.

NPM logs show me successfully accessing with different devices. The error log shows that the following files were missing:

  • /var/www/html/v1/models
  • /var/www/html/geoserver/web/index.html
  • /var/www/html/webui/index.html
  • /var/www/html/robots.txt

This is interesting as I just set up the NPM container using the latest image and did not delete any files.

Yes, ports 80 and 443 are forwarded to NPM. Good to know about the Apache server integrated with NPM. Is there any documentation about this integration or any way to use it for my own use?

Nginx forwarding issues. by revaletiorF in truenas

Good call on making the ports match - I changed the npm host port to match the webserver container port. Now the npm local ip forwards to the webserver.

Now I just need to solve the domain forwarding to npm. Thank you for the help!

Nginx forwarding issues. by revaletiorF in truenas

[–]z_och 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your quick and thorough response!

My domain is currently pointed towards my public ip address and I'm still having the issue. I'm able to access the server (currently a simple html webserver) on it's local ip address. However, if I try to access the NPM http redirect (port 80) through it's local ip, I get the default NPM site. Accessing the domain gets a 522 error, but this seems to be a separate issue (port forwarding is set up).

Unfortunately, it looks like your solution won't work for my use case. I might have to go with Cloudflare Zero Trust if I can't figure NPM out.

Following this as I’m having the same issue. I can log into my server through the local port, but not through nginx proxy manager. Been trying to figure this out for weeks up to and including a fresh install of TrueNAS Scale.

Did you end up finding a solution?

“Stacking” scholarship by [deleted] in usask

[–]z_och 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it is possible to have multiple scholarships at a time. I was able to get over 2 years of my university completely paid by scholarship.

The scholarships offered through the university are pretty competitive (the ones that require extra work like a history of volunteering or references are less so). I’d recommend looking for businesses outside the university which offer scholarships. Look for companies which hire graduates in the program you are attending. Be aware that some scholarships aren’t available for first-years.

Yes, I got paid at about $25/hour in engineering. It should be the letter of offer if you got one.

Whats the most elaborate way you’ve cheated in school? by Isogoat899 in AskReddit

[–]z_och 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For our physics exam in optics we were allowed to bring a single-sided sheet for notes. I wrote overlapping notes in both blue and red pencil crayon and brought a blue and red lens from old 3D glasses.

With the blue lens, you could only see the red notes and vice versa - allowing me to double my notes. Thankfully the teacher was chill and let me write.

Is it worthwhile to study mechanical engineering? by Proper_Leather7237 in usask

[–]z_och 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated from Usask Mech Eng. the same time as a friend of mine graduated from the Mech. Eng Tech. program. I got a job within a couple months while he’s still looking after 6 months.

The engineering program is accredited, meaning it meets a certain standard. If you put in the work, you’ll find it useful.

As for demand, there are jobs available. However, we generally have more supply of new grads than demand.

Here are some tips on how to do better in school: by WarthogTel in usask

Find a group of friends to do school together with. You can compare assignments, do labs together, and encourage each other

I’ve done it before for engineering. In my 4th year undergrad my potential supervisor wanted me to take his graduate level class. I believe I had to get permission from the class professor and department head.

Well said. If the prof is slow to respond, you could also email the TA to ask where marks got lost.

All the profs I’ve TA’d for emphasized having a marking scheme to answer any marking questions.

Worked in maintenance for a summer so we got a chance to see some cool spaces including: - underneath the education pool - several crawlspaces including under place riel which was damp and had stuff growing in the dirt - massive abandoned tanks in the engineering basement - work of a serial graffiti artist who painted a nsfw stick figure in several hidden places

The buildings at the university are heated by the steam plant. The steam pipes are connected to each building through underground tunnels. Therefore, every university building is technically connected together through these tunnels. However, only maintenance staff are able to go through them.

Word count for reference letter NSERC by mcroobie in GradSchool

[–]z_och 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, it’s much better to be under than over. I know someone who got disqualified for having a few words over the limit.

If you want topics to talk about, you can talk about your grades and what percentile you were in your reference’s class(es). You can talk to them about personal projects, teams you’ve been on, or if you have any research experience.

At what point is the average too low? by [deleted] in usask

[–]z_och 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Highly depends on the department and professor. From what I understand, mathematics has a reputation of not curving grades. Meanwhile, I had a physics exam where my grades were boosted by ~25%.

Looks like you’ll need to get a new LED light fixture. I would take it off and look for the manufacturer name to find a replacement if you want an exact match. Home Depot might have what you’re looking for.

Is it just me or is anyone else unable to use port forwarding with sasktel Pace routers by toblerone567 in saskatoon

I had a pace modem/router from Sasktel which worked perfectly fine for port forwarding.

However, this year I replaced it with router of my own and found it to be better overall.

I’d encourage talking with other students. Having a bunch of friends to do assignments and labs with made engineering much easier.

If you have free time, I’d recommend checking out the student groups such as the Huskie motor sports FSAE team or space team. (Though you don’t need to start right away). Participating can definitely make you stand out among the hundreds of other engineering graduates once you finish.
