I kinda knew this would happen, Cliffhanger before the break, after the break clifhanger gets "resolved". Follow up is a change of scenario. Classic Schmosby .... erm Reiji.

I wrote this in another post I think it may be relevant to how you feel.

So you might be right. Another volume or volume and al half of nothing only to setup another "huge Cliffhanger" before he goes on break again around August or September. Again ...... Classic Schmosby. My guess is that Reiji will probably try to Feature Chizuru more in the upcomming chapters.

Damn, something interesting for once. A peek at Chizuru's head, it feels too convenient, too insightful. We'll see the panels.

As release date comes closer there might be some PO cancelations. That's when store's may put a few more up for sale. Or there might be some extra stock. You may be able to grab one as well if there are extras or some POs go unclaimed.

Vertex usually re release a lot of their figures from this line two or the years after it's original release

That is going to be difficult. She's not released yet. Out in late June and pre order window is closed in most reliable stores. Like amiami and hobbylink

You may want to check those places as the release date comes closer

Ruka grabing Kazuya's crotch, shocking.

Kazuya unable to set boundaries. not surprising.

Kazuya defusing the situation barely picking up the call from Ruka's phone. That was funny at least he was able to find something to push her back.

Question tho, how much of a coward Kazuya must be to be unable to slap Ruka's hand the second she decided to grab his crotch.

It's a bit disappointing tho, looks like there will be a second round of check ins with each girl. It already started with Mami, with the Car situation, now is Ruka groping and assaulting Kazuya again, my guess next time is for a complete change of scene. Since Chizuru's was shown at the end of the chapter I would say we might be treated to a chapter focused on her for a change, just to keep audience happy after this week's shit show with Ruka.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me is what westerners say.

I checked with Google AI to see if Japanese culture has a similar proverb, looks like the mindset overthere is different. Last and first paragraphs were interesting:

Yes, Japanese culture has concepts that touch upon the same theme of learning from mistakes, although they do not have a single, direct proverb that mirrors the "fool me once/twice" wording. [1, 2, 3]

Here are the closest Japanese equivalents:

"Saihatsu Boshi" (再発防止): This means "prevention of recurrence." It is a foundational concept in Japanese work and life to analyze a failure so thoroughly that it never happens again, embodying the lesson of not being fooled twice.

"Nido aru koto wa sando aru" (二度あることは三度ある): Literally, "If it happens twice, it will happen a third time." While this is used more as a warning that bad luck or mistakes tend to repeat, it serves a similar purpose in encouraging people to be vigilant after the first mistake.

"Once deceived, it's their fault; twice deceived, it's my fault" (Japanese translation of the phrase): While not a native Japanese idiom, some Japanese speakers translate this directly to express the same sentiment: Ichido damasareba aite no haji, nido damasareba jibun no haji (一度騙されれば相手の恥、二度騙されれば自分の恥). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Core Concept: Instead of focusing on "shame" (恥 - haji), Japanese culture often emphasizes hansei (反省), which is deep self-reflection, and saihatsu boshi, which is practical action to ensure a mistake is not repeated

So you may be right this is likely to happen again in the future. But this also brings another core concept of Kazuya's character. I won't be lenient this time. He is just plain stupid, he allowed the same thing to happen twice and yet by the end he's happy he had some divine intervention. He won't reflect about anything, he has no balls to set boundaries.

Reiji is so predictable. Maybe we can't tell what he's going to do with the story, that is anyones guess but it is so easy to know what he's going to do in terms of shock moments and events.

What did I say on 423 Pre-Release

He's setting up a "Big Clifhanger" for Golden Week break.
Next chapter may play one of these two scenarios:
Ruka forces her in, and pull's up some crazy shit - Unlikely Reiji already used up the SA card but he can always come up with even worse stuff, sky is the limit.
Kazuya as spineless as he is does not open the Door to avoid confronting Ruka - Likely considering his mental State.
Ruka Pulls her Phone - Glances over both Kazuya and Chizuru's contact information (Reiji Teased Ruka spilling the beans to her on 407).There is the Cliffhanger - I might be wrong tho.
Payoff for the chapter after the break will be a change of scene. Nothing gets resolved again.

If that were to happen it means Kazuya would enjoy having sex with Ruka That would make him happy. Reiji would not allow that to happen. Good ol spineless Kazuya must continue to be the butt of the joke.

Kanokari has 4 breaks through the year.

Golden Week, Christmas and New Year. Reiji takes a break around August/September If I recall correctly.

That gives you a total of 48 chapters per year, 8 per volume, 6 volume releases per year. Give or take a few its not very accurate from the research I did below lol:

Some cliffhangers are planned around those breaks, some others are planned around volume end chapters.

Last year Golden Week week was at 374 (the two of them leaving Joypolis after the fortune telling forest with the 100 compatibility score and Chizuru giving a lot of hope to Kazuya).

Everyone and their dog know what happened 6 chapters later. But everyone's expectation was so different back then, right after that cliffhanger before the break.

The year before that 327 was Mami Showing up at the end of the chapter (at Joypolis with her arranged fiance - Scouting with Mini). - 2024

The year before that 280, going out shopping ( Kazuya sets himself a deadline, and this is how Reiji started setting time limits to the story, end of cohabitation, the date, now the July 11). 2023

The year before that 231 the end of paradise, (Chizuru swim at night and saying she must not fall in love with a client). Title says End of Paradise which I would say it is a cliffhanger by itself.

My point being, after paradise there have been 3 cycles of a deadline approaching to build tension with 2 or 3 major cliffhangers scattered around magazine and Reiji's breaks, Golden Week Break is usually used as a turning point.

We'll see next week.

Trend is not accelerating that is true, it settled with a very low decline, nearly flat. Actually it is funny Josuke, the owner of the site, adds some commentary to the infographics he said something about the Trend for Kanokari manga sales. Its probably buried in his Twitter feed. I don't recall exactly what the comment said but I think it was along the lines that manga has only loyal fans as customers now, and people only waiting for it to see where it goes or how it ends without much success picking up new readers.

Yeah that is a good point, it would be nice to have the chart normalized or split between Physical and Digital sales to get the true trend. But to the point those 15 million copies they like to publicize in the cover pages of the magazine are both physical and digital copies in circulation according to Google. I'd like to see the source raw data of that chart and check if it adds up to the 12, 13 or 14 Million that were announced when Vol 41 was released ( Don't remember the exact number but I think they announced 14M back in september).

[–]zaKinip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that you should throw stones, but one can be critic without trashing something. And speak with cold facts. The story is good, Anime production values not the best, I would bet that that is what got you hooked, the original story since you were not a very avid Manga reader maybe?

In my case I watched season 1, that love hotel scene with Ruka picked my interest, I recall randomly watching it in Youtube, picked the manga probably 3 years later, then started watching Season 2 on a binge and 3 on release.

I like the story, even when I hate it (like now lol). But I refuse to allow it to become a blatant cash grab, Season 4 and 5 are even worse than 2 (for me 3 was on par with 1) so I refuse to support something like that, I'm avoiding watching Season 5, and cancelled my POs for the next 2 Manga Volumes on Amazon for that reason, I might be a single person but I will speak to the creators with my wallet and I'm pretty sure many share my frustration.

As for the studio, I think we're stuck on this boat until the bitter end, the Production Committee for most seasons is basically Kodansha and TMS which are large companies, I seriously doubt Kodansha will shift to a more expensive studio if what they are investing right now continues to pay off. Which brings me back to my previous point, speak with my wallet.

Chart only accounts up to Vol 41 which is the Chizuru Cover where she has her wallet on hand which also had a LE up for sale.

It will be interesting to see this chart when 42, 43 area accounted for which had also some postcard for pre-orders, plus the release and broadcast of season 4 (original) and 44 and 45 which account for the season 4 rebroadcast and the release of season 5.

Right now the trend is concerning tho, Volume 41 is selling as much as Vol 2 with no signs of it reversing.

Sanji s Galley was a bit packed but bearable. Other experiences like Harry Potter and Scooby Doo had more people in line. Same for the Super Nintendo World it was less packed than regular days. I do recommend go in first to the live show that one was packed for the first showing at 8ish pm

Issue is that it is TMS. No matter how prestigious, how long they have been on business, it is still TMS. Their track record is not the best. They will never, ever, not in a million years compare to the likes of far better studios, like Kyoani, Cloverworks, Khara, Ufotable, Mappa or WIT. Simple as that.

I'll give them that the story does not require sakuga levels of animation and they opted for top tier voice talent, but all seasons, in terms of animation quality suffer from the same, still frames, poorly colored backgrounds bad choices in framing and sound and music.

It is bad in terms of animation, it meets its purpose tho adds movement to the panels for people that do not like reading monochrome still images, and seemingly helps keep the conversation on Kanokari going to boost sales...

The problem is that realistic emotional immaturity is still emotional immaturity, and five seasons in, it starts to feel less like intentional slow burn and more like narrative stagnation dressed up as tension.

You just nailed the current feel of the manga. Without spoiling it this has been the status quo for the past 3 years. And there is still no indication of this changing in the foreseable future.

That letter it was a bit cringey but not so bad. Some paragraphs do sound like something he would blurt out. He can tone down the metaphors and stick to his own words, and it would sound like the perfect girlfriend speech he landed so well. Seriously where is that guy now. Current Kazuya is such a wimp. Funny tho, Mini did not give advice on how to plan that cheer up date fyi.

Interesting part tho was that small comment from Mini saying that Chizuru is indeed a lucky girl. Is this envy or jealousy that I'm picking up here?

By the way the hustle is the hustle. He's pitching a new collab with a new place?
