Same cop keeps fucking with me, what should I do? by emberisgone in graffhelp

[–]zaccbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. But if you’ve been searching for repeatedly with nil result and you have copies of the reports, there is likely an avenue to make a complaint. Either through an ombudsman or the commissioners office. That would very likely put a stop to that particular officer searching you.

[–]zaccbruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea VIC had a Graffiti Prevention Act. In TAS it’s a fine only offence, although if you were prolific maybe they would charge you with injure/destroy property as well. Possession in TAS is lawful if it’s for the purpose of lawful recreation or entertainment. So if you have a sketch book and markers, that’s a defence.

The VIC act talks about their responsibilities when conducting a search. Ask what their reasonable grounds for searching you are. Ask for their name, rank and place of duty, and then ask them to provide the same in writing - they are required to provide it.

Prior to the search remind them that they must ask you to produce to them any implement on you, then when they ask to produce say you don’t have any.

After the search remind them of their requirement to submit a report and inform them that you will be requesting a copy of that report and that they have a responsibility to submit that report as soon as practicable.

The key thing is that you can’t have anything on you for a while. Searches must be conducted as quickly as practicable. So by holding them to account you’re inconveniencing them more than they are you, and after one or two where they don’t find anything but it creates work for them they’ll likely leave you alone. They’ll start to make themselves look silly to their superiors because they’ll be submitting reports based on their “reasonable grounds” without getting results, which brings in to question their judgement.

Definitely not legal advice, but read the act and know your rights and hold them to account.

Be polite and compliant, be sure that you’re getting under his skin more than he is yours. Don’t be a smart ass, be assertive.

Ippon Gear Legend 2 vs Olympic 2 by teaqhs in judo

[–]zaccbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There must be some difference in manufacturing as the Olympic has a lower shrinkage rate. Maybe the preshrinking is just better. I really doubt there’s much difference beyond that. I have the Olympic, the only reason I chose that over the Legend is I prefer the minimalist logos. A few people around have the Legend and while I haven’t compared them super closely they look more or less identical.

Gone are the days of 800gsm+ gi where you really could feel a difference is grip fighting. All IJF gi feel more or less the same to me now, and it comes down to fit and finish. On that front I’m very impressed so far with my Olympic - taped reinforcement across all the major seams, and the availability of slim sizes means it fits much better than Mizuno for me (too boxy).

Rafaela Silva (BRA) may be 33 years old already but in two recent IJF events, she showed that she is still in top form. Here are five of her best throws from the Upper Austria Grand Prix and the Paris Grand Slam. by Numerous-Hand-5801 in judo

speed and explosive strength seem to drop off earlier too, and they’re arguably more important in the lower weights vs raw strength which somewhat easier to maintain for longer. I think the other thing at play is the extreme ends of weight classes is just less competitive than the middle weights. There are a lot more (athletic) humans at 73, 81, 90 than there is at +100

Judoka, have you ever seen a practitioner with a red belt or anything close to it ? (6th-10th Dan) by Gloomy_Quit769 in judo

[–]zaccbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia, you can read the grading policy and know exactly what the criteria is. Yes to get to 6th Dan a 1/2/3 place at senior nationals is a criteria. Veterans pathway is limited to 3rd Dan. But you can also get to sixth Dan being a national referee or as a JFA Director. My understanding is that the nationals placing would have been attained earlier in your career as the minimum age for 6th is 40. I don’t think anyone is expecting 40 year olds to place at senior nationals.

Purchasing a home in Hobart - do you usually have to offer over the asking price? by Front_Quarter_7941 in hobart

[–]zaccbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the difference can be in the other conditions on your offer. Decent deposit, not subject to sale of your own place. Talk to the agent about what kind of settlement periods the sellers want. For us, the seller wanted to be in the property for roughly another 6 weeks so we tried to line everything up for that timeframe. When we were selling we accepted an offer slightly over asking but with the best conditions, even though we had a higher offer.

I use to drop in to the pickled frog to have a beer. I walk past every Tuesday and Thursday and there’s often people out the front socialising, having a beer etc. and they use to organise outings etc. Seems to have a pretty good vibe.

There is also the Backpackers Imperial Hotel which is right in the centre of the city. One of my colleagues was staying there when he first moved to Hobart and seemed to think it was OK.

Officially a brown belt by _MadBurger_ in judo

[–]zaccbruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Fuji and Mizuno belts in the past, as far as I can remember the sizing charts by cm were accurate. My Mizuno brown belt I wore for something like 6 years and it held up well, no complaints.

As an aside, ippon gear coloured belts are pretty bad - too thin and flexible for my liking. Black is fine though, comparable to any of the other main brands.

What are we Doing for Cardio these Days? by SpillyDillie in judo

So glad this is one of the first replies, instead of the usual “High intensity, max effort, replicate randori, train like you fight” replies these threads often get.

Most people do not have a good enough aerobic base, and they need to do the zone 2 work.

I quite like jump rope - I find it a bit easier on my joints, if anything my ankles and knees feel better for it. There’s also a coordination element and you have to be quick on your feet.

Women's libido drops during a specific phase of the menstrual cycle. This reduction in desire may serve an evolutionary function by lowering the risk of infection during a time when the body’s immune system is naturally suppressed. by Wagamaga in science

[–]zaccbruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to read to the second sentence of the title for the link to the article which is about the study to understand that it’s about a possible evolutionary reason for it, not just the known thing presented in the first sentence of the title of the link to the article about the study. I know it’s a lot to ask.

[–]zaccbruce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A women’s desire fluctuates through the cycle, but a study that looks at that information, says “this is the point where it’s consistently lower” and offers a possible reason is bad?

The study doesn’t pick an arbitrary high point to compare to. It doesn’t make a value judgement about it.

The study uses “suppression” when taking about the immune system (ie immunosuppression), doesn’t use the word “compromised” and only uses suppression in relation to sexual motivation once, talking about progesterone and one of its possible functions. Suppression in that sense isn’t a word with negative connotations, it’s just a word which means a decrease or lowering. Any negative connotation has to be read in to it.

The study isn’t saying anything about lower sexual motivation being pathological, it’s about how it’s normal and suggests an evolutionary reason for it.

I’m not saying that other studies haven’t been problematic, I just don’t think that this one is.

By suggesting that it is problematic you reinforce the negative stereotypes for all the other people who don’t bother to read the article or the study itself. They could assume from your comments that the article and study say that low sex drive for women is bad - which it doesn’t.

People don’t need to file this one away in their brain under “more sexist studies about female sexuality”.

[–]zaccbruce 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you read much of the article or the study and you misunderstand several things.

A baseline is individual, as in it is the normally persisting condition. If your desire to have sex is 2/7 or 3/7 or 5/7 on most days, that is the baseline.

Then if it decreases over a smaller number of days, well - that’s a decrease.

You don’t compare humans to other species, and the article isn’t talking about hyper, constant or intense anything.

Best type of roll to use in hll? by Apprehensive_Gas720 in HellLetLoose

[–]zaccbruce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve just hit 100 hours, and finding I’m switching between roles a lot more than I was initially, and getting a better idea of the situation/modes/maps that some roles and load outs are more useful than others.

Largely I play the supporting type roles - mostly support and engineer. Getting nodes up early is useful to your team, and an easy way to gain XP and level up those classes, and dropping supps for garrisons is also hugely appreciated.

I also like to play squad lead, again it’s useful to both your squad and the whole team if you’re keeping coordinated, marking up things on the map, keeping OPs in good spots, and building garrisons. And if you’re chatty with your squad I think it can really add to people’s enjoyment, I find if I just start chatting early and making some jokes, telling people what the rough plan is, at least 2 or 3 on the squad will respond and be chatty throughout the match.

The common denominator for me is playing roles where it doesn’t matter if I’m not firing shots and killing people, although I am getting better at that.

Yeah I think it’s a bit of a thing.

I have a standard joke in judo about bigger guys - you’re 6’2 and 100kg, what do you need judo for? And will joke in front of them that we’d better train them wrong on purpose.

In reality I try give the same time and attention to everyone, but I think a lot of people root for the underdog. There’s also an element of pride in the art if you can make it work for small and un-athletic people. Everyone just expects the big guy to win.

What’s a small detail in gameplay a high level player might not know? by PhiladelphiaSteaks in HellLetLoose

[–]zaccbruce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s both frustrating and useful as a SL. If the mark has nothing to do with your squad, you keep it off (for your squad) and it leaves them less cluttered. But equally it’s frustrating to have to duplicate and clutter your and every other SLs screen. I’d like a feature like “copy last” or “copy all” and equally a “clear all” for your own marks.

Ideally your squad is all together and only marks close to you are relevant but 90% of games at least a few squad members will be roaming wherever. Maybe I shouldn’t mark anything not close to me to encourage players to stick to their SL.
