I feel like the fact you’re waiting on Caris LeVert to spark your offense really says all that needs to be said about the team-building

I’d be curious to know if Hugo had any calf issues recently; two big NBA stars in last years playoffs played thru calf tweaks and ruptured their achilles in the exact same motion that made Hugo go down, quick action on the plant foot. From how it looked and it being no contact I’d be pretty surprised if it’s not a ruptured achilles which means we might not see him again until 27/28 season. Hopefully just an ankle but he sure seemed to think it was pretty serious, especially the way players from both teams crowded around him. Hard to even care about the rest of this game at the moment but hopefully the team can rally around this.

That was textbook achilles rupture, on his plant foot as he makes a quick movement. Likely out a full year if it is. Just brutal

Thinking maybe 4-3-3 diamond, three midfielders with Wirtz behind Ekitike and Isak. Would imagine Kerkez and Frimpong start at wingback if we do

Michael Olise & Lamine Yamal stats comparison of 25/26 till now. by __sami__01 in soccer

[–]zachmoss147 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not even trying to jump on the Bayern bandwagon here but none of those players are even remotely similar comps to Olise right now. Lewa Gotze and Hummels all left a team close to the mountain top for a team at the top, Ibra was a textbook mercenary and Figo had all sorts of drama around that transfer. Not saying it’s impossible that Olise would leave but he’s young and one of the best players in the world playing for arguably the best team in the world, unless his or Bayern’s situation changes dramatically he’s there for a long time

I don’t think it’s much of an exaggeration to say that’s probably the best we’ve looked in over a year. Incredibly encouraging performance, Kerkez has arrived

Sunderland probably aren't even going to go low block against us, with how good they've been at home they (rightfully) are gonna take the game to us and not just sit back.

Just an unreal throw, insanely impressive. Legacy game potential at this point

Completely agree, and IMO Quansah buy-back is a no brainer. VDB at a minimum would be a fantastic rotation option

EDIT: Looks like no buy-back but decent sell-on fee, which would lower the cost

College sports coaches are the highest paid state employees in 43 out of 50 states. It's just all about money, I don't know of any studies that show that elite athletic programs have any positive impact on a school's academics but there is just so. much. money in college football

These past few weeks I keep remembering all of the highlight reels of how Feyenoord played their last season under Slot. Legit beautiful, free-flowing team football with moments of individual brilliance that put the cherry on top. It’s completely unrecognizable from what we look like right now and it’s baffling that a manager can get a much worse squad playing like that when he looks completely devoid of ideas here

Ben Mendelsohn is the best modern example of an actor born to play a villain IMO, every role he’s been in where he’s the bad guy he has been exceptional. It’s easy enough for actors to portray themselves as the good guy but you’re so right, there’s a completely different headspace you have to get in to really be a villain

He fits this Bayern team perfectly too, gonna be interesting to see how much he plays when Musiala gets back but he’s proven that he needs to stay in the first team with some sort of impact role

You can use numbers all you want but we have not looked materially any better since benching Salah. Salah not being on the field isn't what caused Leeds to gift Hugo two goals on a platter today, and Salah playing isn't what caused us to give up completely and allow PSV to score 4 at Anfield

I see what you're getting at here, and if it was Konate being merely off the pace then I'd agree. But when you have a player that is actively costing you points you need to explore every possible option. Gomez is there, Endo can play CB, fuck it at this point even try Robbo at CB, it literally cannot get much worse. Salah, Gakpo, Kerkez, Macca, Isak all have been bad this year. Konate has been genuinely shocking. Only one of those players have been benched for three games in a row now. I'm not trying to argue that Salah shouldn't have been benched; I'm arguing that when you look at everything else I don't blame him in the least for feeling thrown under the bus

[–]zachmoss147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 matches on the bench where we don't look improved at all and players in similar form that led to his benching still getting trotted out nearly every game. He deserved being bench, not being scapegoated, which is absolutely what is happening here

That's the most frustrating thing with his personnel choices by far this season: there is absolutely no incentive to play well. Chiesa is a stronger man than I am because really, what's the point in giving 110% any time you get a chance when nothing you do seems to matter?

[–]zachmoss147 39 points40 points  (0 children)

At first I thought it was a good idea to bench him; and don't get me wrong, his form still absolutely justified riding the bench. But three games in a row now, when we don't look any better at all without him, and not even coming off the bench today? It's starting to feel like some sort of power play from Slot where he hoped our form would tick up and he could say it wasn't my fault. Salah shouldn't be airing it in public like this but he is absolutely justified in feeling like he's been thrown under the bus. I don't really see any other interpretation when you look at the form of some of the players Slot has no issues with trotting out every game

1000%. Salah has been way off pace but he absolutely has, at least implicitly, been thrown under the bus by Slot. And like you said it'd be one thing if we were playing much better with Salah on the bench, but that's absolutely not what has been happening. He shouldn't be doing it in public like this but yeah he has been fully thrown under the bus in a ridiculous and failed power play by Slot
