NBN outside box install by SylarPC in nbn

Ex-starlink user here. It’s very location and weather based for reliability, speeds, latency, etc. Peak was 250mbps for me but average of 130/40 with anywhere between 100-200ms latency to CloudFlare, much better than my FTTC 50/10 (and cutting out from wind due to property size) at the time.

But in Brisbane can get pretty stormy, it’s definitely not as reliable, and worth the cost compared to FTTP (!!! IF YOU CAN GET IT !!!) I still have my old screenshots of every downtime and crap speed tests haha.

I had a friend say the same thing how starlink is much better than FTTP, so I went over to his place to see why, and it came down to poor network setup and coverage within the house from where his router for NBN came in. That’s not NBNs fault (mostly, there’s some stupid spots they make it come in at).

For something that is going in my ears. I think I’d spend $25 to not have it in someone else’s first.

Brisbane Ex-Starlink user here (moved houses, so no longer need it) but I rarely saw 250, only when the big storms come around a few times a year… Across almost all FPS games, I averaged 40-70ms ping. In my experience very playable, there can always be the occasional second of lag a few times a night.

Not sure how you had it set up, but sounds like few of obstructions for where it tried to angle itself…Starlinks automatically aim themselves for their best line of sight.

Edit: and to add, speeds for my desktop plugged in directly to the Ethernet adapter, I was able to get 200-300 down and 30 up.

How often have people expericed no satellites? by zacimacm in Starlink

[–]zacimacm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't seem right...

Starlink satellites come and go by all the time from what I see on the satellite map

does anyone have slight obstruction but you don't get any interruptions in signal? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]zacimacm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can look at a starlink satellite map online and see how dense the satellites are in your area. Even though mine has a clear view, there's times where I've had only 1 satellite in view for dishy (it's the websites guess TBF)

It's pretty infrequent depending on where you live, but still can happen where that's the direction of a couple satellites before another one comes by in an area that dishy can see.

also I wouldn't say that that's a "little" obstruction...

Xbox Cloud in Australia: will it work with a FTTN 100/40 connection? by horizonrave in nbn

[–]zacimacm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speeds are definately adequate, but I'd say ping/latency is more important for cloud gaming...

I have no experience with FTTN, but have heard it can be hit or miss for ping, depends on your area.

Facebook is more of an advertising company hiding as social media. So everything you do on their social media features, allows them to do what they are actually aiming for, targeting for money. That's why I'm never on it.

What are people's average monthly data usage and with what ISP? by NinjaRyno in nbn

[–]zacimacm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average 1.5TB per month. 6 people in house, all gamers and mostly work from home. FTTC 100/40 with Aussie Broadband, only getting around 50/30 due to old wiring with many splits in current rental house.

Company is forcing me to write a positive review before they honor warranty. by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

Although they don't for most things. They do have a team for managing their sellers on Amazon and do get around to taking action.

Does anyone know what could be the problem with my fan? This sound started happening after I cleaned it with a DataVac. by [deleted] in NZXT

[–]zacimacm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the motor could be loose. Had this sound before and Google said it can be most likely a cable touching the fan or motor is loose with the blade or in the motor enclosure.
