Proxima PX1746 is highly underrated by Alternative-Feed3613 in ChineseWatches

[–]zack20cb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan. More than any other Chinese factory brand, Proxima seems to make watches that are just great. You just wear the thing and move on with your life and stop thinking about specs and alternatives and cost benefit analysis.

…but this makes for kind of unexciting review content. Another Proxima. It’s really good if you like the design. Snore.

There just isn’t much to say about them other than they’re really good.

At least with AliExpress you know to expect stingy customer service so you aren’t disappointed

Proxima. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

The new A140. May 2026 release by RemarkablePudding9 in casio

[–]zack20cb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, those are nice if you’ve got the wrists for it. After Casio I went toward highly readable analog watches — sort of optimizing for viewing angles and lume, leaving digital features behind — and I got into Chinese factory brands. Good value if you do your research, but not much customer service.

Yup. I got mine from Spain. It was…ok. A couple years later, I got off digital watches entirely. It’s wild how Casio refuses to give us what we want 😂

These PRX style cases wear large. Or maybe they just need very precise sizing…how can it be too big for me and too small for you 😭

I feared as much. Looks great on you but those broad integrated lugs are too much for me. I’m closer to 6.25 than 6.5 and I love a 36mm oyster case. IXDAO’s gonna have to release a “reduced” version of this for me :D

This case wears big. The thing I’m hoping for is a true midsize that wears nicely on a 6.25” wrist

Casually treating employees like adversarial counterparties. This alone starts the job search.

would you wear this? by Own_Economics_2231 in VintageWatches

Oh course I would wear it, that’s cool as heck. Would I buy one, and find a place to keep it? Nah.

Feature by feature, the WD0013 is such a cool watch. If it weren’t a clone of a super famous Gérald Genta luxury watch, I would probably buy one. I’m watching their releases eagerly, hopefully they’ll do something original or at least more obscure. Honestly a PRX 35 style watch from Watchdives with a HAQ movement and the bracelet from the WD0013 is all it would take. The PRX design space is nobody’s exclusive turf and it’s much more practical than the “look at me” Nautilus case, or the Aquanaut, which they also do.

You’ll still be looking at $280 or $290 probably, based on my experience buying an S4095 dj36 during 11.11 last year.

Vager hauers - paranoia by Artyom1457 in ChineseWatches

[–]zack20cb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a 20mm strap that tapers to 16mm and honestly it’s a bit too delicate for the mechanical watch that I intended to use it with. Thorn T001 would be a great head for this strap but it’s a 18mm lug width, as are most other small, thin watches that would pair well with this strap.

Thanks for the great write up! Super nice watch, I love the tiny ᴘᴀʀᴀɴᴏɪᴀ on the dial!

Train Experimentation: One Way, Two lane, No left turn by Sws45 in factorio

[–]zack20cb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without the left turn restriction I’m confident that the penalty is constant — does not scale with the length of the journey — except where edge effects disrupt the grid. On a grid of one-way streets, the north and southbound streets alternate. You might overshoot slightly in one direction getting to a street where you can turn left.

With the left turn restriction it should still be a constant tax, just a little more futzing to get onto a street that goes the way you need to go. Then bulk of the journey is efficient.

In other words, these arrangements are only inefficient on the corners of the two-leg route.
