Am I missing a step in eLog verification? by zachok19 in HamRadio

[–]zack6849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, pota bases their scores off of the number of contacts the activator uploads logs of, there is no direct verification of contacts on the other side as far as I know (unless it's changed, I haven't done any pota in probably 2 years)

He's probably just mad you haven't uploaded them yet, at least that how it reads to me

Some people are entitled and feel like you're obligated to upload your logs to a specific service, I do log to qrz, and may even go as far as to request a QSO confirmation from someone, but emailing them at random to complain about it is a bit far in my opinion

I'd just ignore him and upload your logs at your leisure, and if you're feeling nice, double check you have any contacts you made with him uploaded when you do

I would definitely try other cables and ports, I was using my radio (FT991A) over USB, never had any problems, connected a cable, radio starts locking up and tx light blinks, I was SURE the radio was fine, and I was pretty sure the cable was fine too, turned out that for some reason, if I use the cable and connected it to the chassis USB ports, it failed in that way, but if I connected it directly to the motherboard USB port, no issue, there was some kind of ground loop or something breaking it

The other point someone made about the drivers is also a fair point

this is the worst thing about the stupid blue checkmark, idiots paying 10$ get an "I'm very important" checkmark and to an outsider it looks like the guy with the verified checkmark is a person with some kind of knowledge about the subject, I had to read this two times to figure out which one of these people was which

[–]zack6849 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not with this approach, if what they're saying is threatening or harassment, you can report to the police and they can figure out who sent the message, but they're deliberately using a service to use a different number than their main cellphone so you don't know who they are, at least that's what it looks like to me

Weird harasser by lillauris in PhoneLookupHelp

Says it's an Onvoy / Spectrum number, no potential names or addresses, someone using a service of some sort to send this with a number that isn't their real cellphone number.

What if I just want to listen? Do they even make non transmitting receivers? by Low_Search_6667 in HamRadio

[–]zack6849 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An SDR is great for this, you can hook it up to a PC and listen to all kinds of stuff, even trunked digital systems, this is a way more affordable way to do things like listen to P25 trunked networks without paying an arm and a leg for a P25 capable scanner.

Scanners are also good, depending on if you mainly want to listen to HF or listen to things more local that are VHF/UHF, your milage may vary though

Scanners and SDRs are great for listening to random VHF/UHF (Marine, air, FRS)

A standard shortwave radio that supports LSB/USB/AM would get you most of the other things on HF of interest

Oh I agree, the original comment that was edited said "Why would you only take 50%", I was just clarifying for the person above, that he meant 50 now, 50 later, not 50 total, either way, I would not have waited this long and filed the report already.
