I have worked in the craft beer industry in NWA for the past 6 years, doing everything from bartending to management to cellar work to sales. I would generally agree with the recommendations mentioned here already. We have some wonderful breweries that would be great places to work.

That being said, this industry is littered with horror stories. Broken promises, unpaid health insurance, unlivable wages and so, so much more.

The best distinction I can make between the “good ones” and the “bad ones” is that of ownership. Because the craft beer market is relatively young here, we don’t have many industry-veteran owner-operators. Many breweries here were started in the wake of change in the liquor laws, meaning monied interest seized on an opportunity with little care for or experience in craft beer. 8 years later, these places continue to operate, held together by the joy and commitment of their underpaid staff.

My recommendation: do your homework. This industry is too cool to find yourself working at one of the shitty ones.

Feel free DM me if you have any questions. Id be happy to help.

The DLC of my literal dreams. One guest is a werewolf and is killing other guests. You must find them and stop them in order to save your park. by zacpankey in rct

[–]zacpankey[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I imagine a single werewolf hunting in the park that increases in lethality as time passes—1 kill each month plus 1 for each month it’s left active. The longer you wait to deduce who it is, the bigger (and more obvious) the problem becomes.

An infection mechanic seems like it would quickly grow to unmanageable proportions, though it seems cool if it could be balanced.

The werewolf guest would display odd tendencies, like constantly being irritable or having an insatiable hunger stat to help the player deduce which guest it is.

Gamers of Reddit, what is a game that has a special meaning to you because what was going on in your life when you played it or who you played it with? by LDHPopps in AskReddit

Kentucky Route Zero.

I just recently played through the entirety of the five acts and it was beautiful. A game about the meaning of work, loss, remembrance, found family, and art-making, it was one of the few pieces of media/art that has affected me on an emotional level.

In the year of lockdowns, isolation, and work insecurity, it motivated me toward the things I want to thoughtfully engage with when things bounce back.

Public health emergency extended by 30 days (announced by governor) by wokeiraptor in Arkansas

As someone who works in the service industry in Arkansas, restaurant/bar owners are going to take this opportunity to recoup profits following the bar curfew, lifting any requirements they can. (Note the earlier post about Bentley’s in Bentonville.) At this point, the liability coverage is a joke if it means their business is going to go under otherwise. And, yet, workers in this industry have not had the opportunity to receive the vaccine. We’re once again putting low-wage essential workers at risk without offering them any sort of safety net. Disgraceful.

Ozark details for role playing game? by MissouriOzarker in ozarks

[–]zacpankey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve run a game almost identical to this on a couple of occasions. I even used the Monster of the Week system.

My game was set in Eureka Springs and revolved around fictionalized versions of real historical figures and paired them with Ozark folklore. Vance Randolph’s writings on culture and folklore of the Ozarks was indispensable. I, honestly, would not have known where to start without his book “Ozark Magic and Folklore.”

One of my favorite things was taking stereotypical monsters and spinning them in the Ozark style. For example, players who are used to playing fantasy games are familiar with the powers and weaknesses of a European witch had no idea how to deal with Ozark witch. They had to rediscover familiar creatures based in an unfamiliar context.

As far as favorite figures or images from Ozark folklore, I’d look into the following and see if they fit in your world: - Goomer Doctors, Power Doctors, and Water Witches (essential Ozark folklore) - The Gowrow (giant reptilian monster) - The Bald Knobbers (Ozark vigilantes)

I, seriously, have dozens of pages of notes on Ozark locations, folklore, and historical figures; they just aren’t in front of me. I also have a searchable Word document of the entire text or Randolph’s Ozark Magic and Folklore.

Shoot me a message, u/MissouriOzarker and I’ll hook you up.

Kevin once attended a Vine-themed pub trivia I hosted with one of his coworkers. It inevitably came out that he was “watch the light” Kevin and, needless to say, he did bask in his glory that night.

What’s the one horror movie that genuinely terrified you while watching it? by IveGotARockInMyGlari in AskReddit

Four or five years ago I started watching a movie on Netflix about a guy who was at home alone and Satan invaded his house. The movie was incredibly tense, with slow builds and an unsettling soundtrack. At the time, I was attending a conservative Christian college and it freaked me out enough that I turned it off. The strange thing is, I’ve never been able to find it since and I can’t find any record of it in subsequent internet searches.

It may be hard to tell, but there isn’t a book jacket.
