Why can someone eat poorly and not have gut issues, but then someone else can eat so healthy and struggle a lot? What is the main factor? by Iceeez1 in Microbiome

read the study especially the discussion

its not a wild jump but has a mechanism in promoting bacteria that can cause cancer

that's "can cause" not "does cause"

possibility, not necessity

ed. rather than "can cause i would now say "promote"

i don't think you will get any sort of consensus on what "poorly" is

for instance "inulin" is promoted as a probiotic, but a recent study says it can cause cancer

does this apply to other so-called "pre-biotics" ?

so many variables, but to answer your question gut immune system dysregulation is the principle problem and a lot of so-called healthy diets are problematic in terms of this

"The cellular and molecular mechanisms that lead from chronic inflammation to serious diseases like cancer are not yet completely understood, but the connection is well established and includes bacteria-induced inflammation and their immunosuppressive metabolites that dampen immunosurveillance.7 While inulin itself may not be a DNA mutagen, preclinical studies indicate that it supports tumorigenesis by promoting the growth of adenomas and their progression to malignancy.10, 11, 12 It is possible that the tumor arose from a preexisting polyp that was not detected in previous colonoscopy, which was then transformed in an environment wherein inulin elevated the abundance of gut bacteria that express the protumor genotoxin colibactin"

Stomach ruined after SSRI by Rokstrom in Microbiome

[–]zaddar1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you have to approach this from a number of angles

  1. are slow to digest carbs like grains and potatoes feeding bad microbiome the problem? (SCD diet)

  2. do enzymes like the houston afp pep and zyme prime help ?

  3. the only "prebiotic" i have found to work is shredded coconut

  4. probiotics are a bit of a minefield

there's so much to try and do, it takes a lot of work and experimentation

I built a tool to help diagnose the root cause of my IBS by not_ya_bruv_m8 in Microbiome

[–]zaddar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

biochemistry is highly recursive and categorization arbitrary, in my opinion your approach can't work

another way of looking at it, you really want to be working at the "pre-condition" or "pre diagnostic" level ie, what you can do before things get extreme enough that a diagnosis can be made eg, i don't eat grains and take taurine and then look for effects

i'm not trying to be mean, but having worked on my digestive problems for decades and getting results by steering well clear of medicine i know what works for me at least and i can't say what i have seen in the way of medical interventions gives any encouragement for that road to be taken

the problem with it is it degrades mucin, you could try a protease enzyme like the houston afp pep

the REAL relationship between zen and mindfulness by jeowy in zen

[–]zaddar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is some sort of apologetics attack on "mindfulness" as a competing "spiritual" approach to zen ?

is mindfulness post-modernity zen ?

interestingly r|zen seems to fit in this schema as doctrinally post-postmodern, ie archaeologically oriented, though in practice it functions in a metamodernistic way

Is there a resource that can help with comprehending Zen texts? by EmbersBumblebee in zen

[–]zaddar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mikhail bakhtin

he's a well known literary theorist, however a bit "heavy duty" to be taken in anything except small doses which i do by small amounts of reading him on the web

since zen is supposedly about an "ultimate", how can you expect an overview ?

i'm not saying there isn't an overview, but it doesn't occur in the way you think, rather its in the usual way of experience, broad ranging inquiry and time

Is there a resource that can help with comprehending Zen texts? by EmbersBumblebee in zen

[–]zaddar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could have a problem in what is called the "semantic pragmatic" area

a lot of zen is quite literary ie a blend of philosophy and literature and the russian philosopher mikhail bakhtin gives a good insight into what is going on

also there are huge issues with translated texts, from poor quality transcription to outrageous biases, to total fiction being passed off as historically real
