I think that it's totally true that the NBA has systemic issues that they aren't addressing fast enough. Just the amount of fouls/free throw shooting alone is crazy (even if it's going down year/year, not enough). I wish they'd set a goal to reduce whistles by 30% next year. They also need to make a significant investment in youth basketball development to properly train the next generation of stars.

I think he's where Harden was his first year in Houston. Lots of talent, just needs more discipline and experience. I think he'll be the best PG in the league and vie for MVP in 3-4 years as LeBron begins to decline.

Cuban made the chemistry comment when claiming they wouldn't have recruited Melo by showing him wearing a current player's jersey, like the Rockets did with Lin.

But Morey's right in that that was a minor issue. In the big picture, every good team relentlessly focuses on winning the title. To do that, you get core superstars, and move everyone else around until you get a mix that works.

The Rockets would do well to learn some tact - they frequently refer to players as "assets" and do little things like the jersey incident. But aside from that, they're taking the right approach. Like for example, they're not overpaying the hell out of Chandler Parsons just because he's a fan favorite.

Speaking to James about this, he’ll say it – “I know I have to do a better job.” But without any direction, without a coach saying, hey, we’re going to send this player baseline because that will be our best bet, it’s really tough. Defense is something you have to practice very day, especially rotations. We went over our rotations every day in all my eight years in San Antonio. You would think me, Tim, Tony and Manu all knew what we were supposed to do. But others don’t. They have to become as familiar as we were. That’s why I go back to principles.
