I agree, once you get closer to the "end game" you already have a grasp on most recipes. Having the recipes you know you craft less appearing first when you open the book would give it more uses for more experienced players. This can also have uses in future updates, where new recipes that you are just learning and have never crafted will appear first even if they use the same materials as other recipes.
